Tried Mac and cheese and turkey sandwich with fries and chicken wings, mac and cheese sandwich was surprisingly good and the bread used for sandwich was fresh the staff was friendly but all the other things i tried was mediocre and the chicken wings which are supposed to be spicy were sweet in taste overall its not worth the price.

Yummy BBQ! D likes the brisket sandwich and G enjoys the ribs and chicken with mac&cheese cubes. The sandwich tastes great, well seasoned and salty enough. The other meat lacks of flavour. So, it is necessary to put some sauce to save the whole plate!

There were so many great choices that we decided to try a bunch and were not disappointed. The brisket was TO DIE FOR! Melted in your mouth. Loved the the deep fried Mac n’ cheese and the collard green’s also. Would definitely go back the next time I’m craving BBQ!! Great Menu! By the way, if you get anything, make sure to try the burnt ends poutine. One of the best poutines I’ve had, the fries are probably the best in the city!

We had our BBQ place locked in. We didnt need anything else because we had Moonshine BBQ. But their sudden and abrupt closing changed all of that. We had no choice but to seek out a new BBQ joint to help us satiate our cravings for smoky, delicious meats. Thankfully, Blackstrap BBQ in Verdun was there to right the injustices of the world. Voted 3rd place for Best New Restaurant 2013 in Cult MTLs annual poll. Sharp called it one of Canadas Best New Restaurants of 2013. And Cult MTL voted them as #1 Best Ribs 2015… It sounded like we would be in good hands. We popped in on a Saturday night ready to eat a ton of Memphis-style BBQ! I loved the simple and woody look of the place. To my surprise, it didnt seem to be very busy, but I later remarked that the majority of the constant traffic was coming to pick up take-out. We approached the counter to place our order… And were informed of the terrible news that they were all out of brisket for the night. The worst possible thing that could happen!!! Brisket is my favourite and I was very disappointed at this turn of events. Yet I was determined to have an amazing experience nonetheless.I really appreciate the amount of care that they are putting into their business and into the environment. The meats (hormone and antibiotic-free) are all smoked for many hours and then cooked slowly in pits imported from Missouri. All of their containers, cups and flatware are compostable. These sorts of things make a big difference!Once our order was placed, we took a seat at one of the large wooden tables near the front of the restaurant. The music in this place was incredible! I could barely sit still in my seat and loved grooving to the 80s tunes that they were playing! It did not take long at all until our food was delivered. I grabbed a ginger beer from the cooler and enjoyed how real it tasted. It packed a big ginger punch and was an excellent alternative to actual beer. Which they also have. In fact they carry Joe Beefs special brew. There were three of us and we came for the feast. There was just no other way. Le Gros (1/3 ribs, 1/2 chicken, pork, brisket, braised greens, BBQ beans, fried mac & cheese, coleslaw, fries – $47.99). This is supposed to feed four people, but we felt that it covered three people pretty sufficiently. Also the Burnt Ends Poutine ($12.99).I really liked the metal bins that all of the food is served in, and each person gets their very own trough to eat out of as well. It was a fun and unique touch. Because of the unfortunate lack of brisket that day, they offered to substitute with turkey instead in our Le Gros. We dug in like monsters! The ribs were meaty and delicious, tender and juicy. The meats are not cooked in sauce, only in their secret spice rub. However, they do offer two house sauces at the table. One is sweet and one is spicy. Both were very good and helped to elevate the meats, but werent always necessary. The ribs were quite good on their own and didnt require much additional help. The chicken was a bit of a different story. I had a drumstick, which was very flavourful and moist, however the other pieces of white meat were somewhat bland and dry. The sauces came in very handy in this case. The pork was very juicy and good, a nice example of pork that hasnt been messed around with too much (unlike the pulled pork that you find pretty much everywhere else these days). I might have been sad about the brisket, but thankfully this caused us to get the turkey, which we otherwise wouldnt have had. It was amazing! The meat was tender, truly highlighting the flavour of turkey with a beautiful smokiness. I would go back just for the turkey! The sides were all quite good as well. The braised greens (collard greens or kale cooked slowly in apple cider vinegar and apple juice) was one of my favourites. I loved the stewy bitterness that had a slight hint of sweetness. The BBQ beans werent my favourite because they were a lot more like a chili with pork in them as well. If I had wanted chili I would have ordered chili. On the other hand, the fried mac & cheese was fun and delicious! Most BBQ places serve mac & cheese and I liked that this restaurant was offering a new take on it. Golden fried cubes enveloped a creamy mac & cheese hidden inside! These worked really well. I didnt find anything very special about the coleslaw, but the fries were absolutely fabulous! Some of the best in town!Onto the poutine, this version is made up of triple-cooked fries, fresh Quebec cheese curds and brisket-drippings-gravy. Then its topped with burnt ends, which are pieces of the fatty end of the brisket that get a bit burnt and crispy. Some call it the best part of the brisket. You see why we had to order this, dont you? Fortunately, the brisket shortage did not apply to this poutine, thank goodness! It was very, very good. There are some seriously amazing poutines in this city (obviously) and I would put this up there as one of them. I would have liked it to be a little bit meatier, but all of the components were magic together.Overall, I liked this place. There were some hits and misses, plus the whole brisket debacle. However, I would certainly return to order the turkey… And to hopefully get my hands on some elusive brisket. Im not sure if this place is as good as Moonshine was, but its a pretty comparable and worthwhile substitute. erikaeatseverything.com

Let’s just say that the only thing I don’t like at this resto is the braised greens… Because it’s not meat. Amazing menu. Super friendly staff. Great local beer options and a great ambience. Love love love!
