If you are in need of a cozy and cute neighbourhood breakfast spot, I have just the place for you: Caf Joe. I kept hearing about this restaurant for multiple years in a row thanks to Cult MTLs Student Survival Guide 2014-2015 naming it as one of the best places for Breakfast/Brunch, followed by the Student Survival Guide 2015-2016 and Student Survival Guide 2016-2017 both calling it one of the best Brunch spots. And who doesnt love themselves some brunch? I know that I do.Youll find the small location in Westmount, and make sure to keep in mind that they only serve brunch and are closed by 3:30pm every day. This place seems a lot like a dpanneur-turned-resto and it boasts a super-cute interior complete with vintage bar stools, tons of exposed brick, interesting local art, and plenty of living plants. It feels like going home. You can roll out of bed and be comfortable here. It was a beautiful Sunday morning, so we actually opted for a table on their lovely terrace deck out front. Our server was very prompt and willing to take our order immediately! To drink, I asked for (black) Tea ($2.20) for a bit of a caffeine wake-up. This was served in a giant mug, more tea than I could ever have wanted! While they are open every day of the week, it seemed as if they do a few extra bonus items on the weekends, such as crpes and bndictines. Im usually quite dazzled by benedicts, but in this case I was more interested in the rest of their menu. All of their breakfasts are served with home-style potatoes, fresh fruit and toast. Plus your coffee is included if you get there before 11am. I was very curious about their LExtase; a battered butter criossant made french toast-style and Le Dcadent; a club sandwich made with three layers of french toast filled with eggs, cheese and bacon, served with maple syrup. Plus of course they do a breakfast poutine as well. After some guidance from our server (it turned out that they were all out of LExtase and she warned that Le Dcadent is like a heart attack…Although I still really want to try both!!) I did something that I never do and ordered an omelette. The LOlive (Kalamata olives, hot peppers, tomato and cheese – $10.25) to be exact. I normally consider omelettes to be a bit boring, but in this case, this thing was filled with exactly everything that I could have ever wanted at the moment. And boy did it deliver! I absolutely loved this breakfast so much!! Everything about the omelette was perfect. I loved the fluffy egg, loved the plentiful and bold olives, loved the spicy banana peppers, loved the juicy tomato, and loved the creamy cheese (which Im pretty sure was Velveeta). I couldnt have asked for anything more! I found out that they make their own hot sauce in-house called Mango Fire, so I added some of that to my plate and it was quite delicious. But what I really wanted? For this whole thing to be covered in liberal amounts of Franks Red Hot, and thankfully they had that as well. I was in flavour country. The toast was fine, I would probably upgrade it to a croissant next time. The fruit wasnt anything super special, but at least it was something. And the potatoes were actually quite good and rustic, caramelized and crispy thanks to a good fry. This place is the epitome of a wonderful comfort breakfast and I cant wait to return! erikaeatseverything.com
