Wow. Spouse wanted to come try the Cuban sandwich. I was a little worried as this type of place isn’t somewhere we’d normally frequent. However I was wrong. The gentleman working was fantastic. Super friendly and efficient! Spouse had Cuban sandwich with sweet potato fries with chipotle sauce. Delicious! I had the Cuban burger with rice and beans( can’t remember the name). Holy crap batman! That burger was awesome. Rice was tasty too but huge portion. We were so impressed we called a friend to come down. He too was thoroughly impressed with the burger. Only complaint is the volume of the machines.
I am reviewing Pokey’s kind of uniquely, largely based on atmosphere and fun, not specifically on quality of food – though I am factoring that in. The style of food is kind of standard, pub-style American fare. The food and snacks are good but they take a backseat to the excitement of the well-maintained pinball machines. I did have a beer and thought it was great and that the staff seemed to be nice but then I got lost in a world of flying pinballs. I really hope the best for this place. Nice to visit! I am from BC and was in town for a funeral but would return if I ever found myself in Saskatoon.
Paddle, paddle, bumper, free game. Now go eat your lunch. Cuban inspired food combined with American pinball machines may not seem like a great match but the flavour and fun win out. Cuban hamburger made with pork and chorizo and a nice chipotle mayo on the side adds just enough uniqueness that I recommend the food. One free pinball play with the meal makes any waiting great and I would recommend another few plays. I will come back with friends. If the tokens were 0.50 each with the purchase of a meal instead of $1 I would easily up my rating.
Friendly staff. Eating area is small, but comfy. Nice selection of pinball machines ($1 per play). The food is mainly Cuban-inspired. I had the sandwich special: ropa chicken cubano and chips and one pinball token for $12. The sandwich was delicious. My partner had chicken fingers, dill dip is very good. A friend tried the soup and only had good things to say. Will definitely be back.
