I had the pleasure to dine at Saba’s for the first time. The food was delicious. Decor wasn’t the greatest but that doesn’t matter with such incredible food. I love the lentil dish, spicy chicken and spicy beef. And the injera!

I’d rate it 0 if I could. After reading the many positive reviews about this place my husband and I decided to check it out. I love finding small local restaurants to support. Was eager to try some unique cuisine. We arrived around 7 pm. The place was empty. Our waitress was nice. Brought menus and water (husband ordered tea) and made suggestions what to order as it was our first visit. After approximately 40 minutes the cook came out and asked what we had ordered. She claimed the waitress left without giving her our order. We repeated our order – I wanted the chicken and rice. The cook said she really didn’t feel like making rice…(???? This is a restaurant)…so I changed my order. Husband asked for a tea again (it hadn’t come). At 8:20 we debated leaving but our food came. Assortment of meat. One of the 4 meat dishes were freshly made as it was hot and flavourful. The other three were microwaved. We knew this as they were barely warm and heard the microwave opening and closing multiple times during our wait for our food. The portion was very small. We assumed this was one dish meant for one person Husband still didn’t get his tea. Cook returned to table with the tea after we had consumed some of the food. We asked if this was all the food. She said yes. We then asked for the bill and decided to leave. (Husband just got his tea which he didn’t drink). They charged us $25 for a half eaten plate of food. Cook said if we had ate more she would have brought more out and charged us more. Explained we were frustrated with the wait and the microwaved food. Price didn’t change. Decided to cut our losses. Paid and went home to cook a warm fresh meal. Left the tea untouched on the table. Diner beware

Literally the worst dining experience I’ve ever had in my life. We were the only table at about 7pm on a Friday. The first waitress took our order but then left according to the cook, so they had to take our order a second time. About 45 mins after we arrived we finally got our food (I didn’t get the tea I ordered till the food came). When it came we were surprised it wasn’t hot since we could hear the microwave running and opening and closing (obviously they couldn’t even serve us fresh food). I was unpleasantly surprised at the portion size of the two meals we ordered – barely enough for one! We both found the texture and the taste of the bread completely unpalatable, although in fairness this is a matter of personal taste. The kicker was the fact she charged us $25 for the meal, even after we clearly expressed our displeasure with the entire experience!

YUM! I didn’t even know we had a place like this in Saskatoon. I recently started eating vegetarian and I remembered an Ethiopian restaurant I used to go to in Winnipeg with my vegetarian friends there. Looked for one in Saskatoon and this is what I found. Checked it out last night and it was soo delicious. I had the vegetarian platter and every single item was fantastic. The injera was light and fluffy, perfectly made. I was served the Hamli (collared greens), Alcha (mixed veg), Alcha Birsen (yellow split peas), and Sebhi Shiro (chickpeas). None of them were too spicy, but they all had enough bite to keep you interested. They complimented each other very nicely. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Six of us gave Saba a try this evening. I must say,we were allpleasantly surprised! The dcor is nice except for the area toward the back of the dining area but the owner and the food made up for it. With this being our first time there, the owner suggested the combination meat and veggie platter. She was right, it was definitely a great choice. We got to try several of the dishes so that was great. The food was really, really good! Some of the dishes were spicy but not so spicy that you couldn’teat them. For us, they were just right! Very unique way to eat too. No utensils! Having authentic African coffee following our meal was nice. They only do the coffee on Sunday’s as it is quite the process they go through to make it. Very interesting evening. Looking forward to going back again.

Wow! Amazing food, wonderful atmosphere, and extremely friendly staff! The vegetarian combo platter was amazing and very filing. It was nice to be able to try a little bit of everything off of menu. So good that I had too to take some injera home with me! As well, the coffee was one of the best I’ve ever had! Would definitely recommend to everyone, and will definitely be back here soon!

Slow, and rude service, mediocre food.. I went there with a friend. My friend ordered a drink but wasn’t hungry. I ordered the Hot Birsen. They told us they would be charging my friend cover, if she wasn’t going to order anything. So she ended up ordering the Alcha dish since she was going to be charged anyway. The food was mediocre, and my friend stopped eating after a few bites. The service was poor and slow to get our food. We would have gotten better service and food from the Mc Donalds on that street.
