Dinner tonight at saskatoon station. Interior is very original. Trains, wood, Tiffany type lamps and winding staircases. Sangrias for the table. Served in Tom Collins glasses? And very orange juice only in flavor garnished with an orange and a maraschino cherry. Appetizers of stuffed mushrooms and crab cakes. Stuffed Mushrooms are hot, very hot, covered in cheeses and filled with fake crab. Flavor is disappointing. Crab cakes come two to a plate with a plate of sliced green salad served with no dressing. Crab cakes are undercooked, lacking flavor, and were served cold in the middle. Chicken tetrazzini with kale salad to start. Disappointing flavor, bland spinach and served with three asparagus and cold lemon potatoes. Service was polite and attentive.
I think we must have visited the restaurant on a bad night as the services was slow. We didn’t even get any bread as we had waited hours and still no food. Every time we asked how long until we might get the food they would not tell the truth. Honestly with all Saskatoon has to offer, give this place a miss.
Had our staff Christmas get together / supper upstairs. We all ordered off the regular menu. Our group had two or three dedicated servers and service was very good. All the appetizers, meals and desserts were well received and comments were favourable. Overall a very enjoyable group experience. Not inexpensive but we were looked after well.
Wasn’t sure what to expect after reading some of these recent reviews which are all over the place in terms of their evaluation. This is a great place for a dinner date – the atmosphere and interior is very unique and feels special. The pricing is, as documented, definitely on the high side. Unless you’re just getting burgers or apps, you should expect to drop upwards of $30/person.The menu has an international tinge to it, seeming to resort to Greek mainstays to fill in the gaps between the more focused components of dishes. Fine by me. My girlfriend had the short rib special, which looked and tasted amazing (I wasn’t going to turn down having a bite…) while I had a steak special, which intrigued me because it seemed like a particularly adventurous blend flavours that were all manageable on their own – cilantro-based shrimp scampi, steak, lemon roasted potatoes, grilled pineapple, asparagus, and a unique tomato jam. I’m not sure the combination was exactly a homerun, but the components on their own were all really good. I think I’d opt for the short rib next time though. The portion sizes look small on the plate, they tend towards optimizing for presentation rather than volume, but the meal (which included an appetizer, roll, salad/soup to start) was definitely enough for me and equal or better value than $30 spent at a typical chain restaurant. They have some interesting items on the menu like Elk and Boar that may have some unique appeal, the main dishes seemed to have a lot of attention invested into them (not just presentation, but the right level of caramelization and grilling), and the service was good.
We ordered the coachman for two. They had changed the menu and the prices from what was listed here. We were a little dissapointed what we went there for was not there anymore and that the prices were significantly higher. The server was friendly and obviously the place was unique and stacked with rares and collectables. The oysters were good the platter was pretty standard. It was good but I have had it at the cave and for 40 dollars less. Would not go here again due to the prices.
Best I can say is meh. I ordered a potato soup and stuffed provelone chicken for lunch. They came out together in less than 5 minutes so I assume it was pre-made. It certainly tasted like it. Charging for a pop refill didn’t make the experience any more memorable. I would pass on this place unless you a in a big hurry and not too picky on the food quality.
Go here for the lunch special every now and then. Good deal for lunch and its always pretty good. Havent had a bad meal yet. I wouldn’t recommened the Sunday brunch though unless your there right when they open. If you go closer to noon you would be lucky to get anything that is freshly made and hot.
