What was once, is no more. Boffins was once a club and is open to the public 5 days a week. I ordered appy and dinner recently. Lamb shanks for great value but not remotely as close to as good as they were a few years ago. I used to ask for the chefs special creation and you would never be disappointed although if would usually cost $28+. Bring back the Moroccan lamb shank dish which cost twice the price but 4x as delicious. Read the Planet S magazine review recently and they are spot on with comments. Lunch is as disappointing as dinner turned out to be. They used to have a beet wrap years ago at lunch and this was really good.. boffins has gone from good to bad since becoming public.
Lost at Lunch. I have attended other events and done drinks at Boffins, but this was my first walk-in lunch. We sat for a long time before our waitress came to us and apologized that we had fallen between two seating areas and been forgotten about. Our food was good, but the 40 minute wait at lunch hour killed us, and one of our group had to depart. The server did try to make things right by discounting meals, but did not return with my change. An unfortunate experience at an otherwise nice place to eat.
Boffin club, short on taste. I was recently at a party held at the Boffins club, the decor of the building was beautiful, the atmosphere incredible, but the food a complete disaster. It was the culmination of a politically correct cuisine assembled by a chef that confuses presentation with taste. The meal started with a salad that was about as tasty as a collection of field weeds beautifully presented with two slices of some tasteless excuse for cheese. The dressing of his own creation added nothing to the experience. This was followed by the main course a completely bland chicken breast served with some sauted vegetables that had about as much taste as cardboard. I can say that the desert was acceptable but only just so. I hate to think what my friends paid for this extravaganza. All of this experience was confirmed by others that attended the party with an impromptu gathering at a local burger joint on the way home and shared our mutual disgust.
Excellent Food. I occasionally eat at Boffins for lunch and the food is always fresh and prepared well. The special events, though, are unreal. Just great food all around.
Pretentious, sometimes nice, sometimes not.. I have visited Boffins quite a number of times, and it has the interesting distinction of being the first restaurant that I ate at in Saskatoon. My experiences at Boffins have been quite mixed – some bad such as cold soup (that I had to send back) or a salad that had rotten red leaves stuck to the back of other more robust mlange, and some good, such as the mushroom calzone that I enjoyed yesterday. Severs are generally attentive and prompt, although on at least one occasion I have experienced very long delays indeed. The restaurant itself is nicely laid out, tends to be quiet, and so is a very good place for a working lunch. In my experience good food is quite hard to find in Saskatoon, and eating out always has an element of risk to it. While not particularly reliable, Boffins is trying hard to be an up-market place and offers a reasonable chance of an enjoyable meal.
Amazing food. The food here is unreal, and they use local ingredients. Lunches here are awesome, as is the patio in the summer. Service can be a little slow at times but at least you can tell the servers are moving/doing the best they can.
Great food if you can get in. If are a member or know one, go. Food is very good.
