Going to Dees is like being invited to a friends house for lunch. So laid-back is the atmosphere that you almost forget that youre not at homeDee is known for her award winning soups but it certainly doesnt stop there. The love she puts into every dish is evident with that first fork/spoonful It amazes us how she can be so proficient at preparing dishes of so many nationalities! From her incredible Lime-Tortilla soup to a more traditional Beef Stroganoff or Shepards pie, Dee can do it all. Not to mention her excellent Pad Thai. One of our favourite places to be sure. Quaint, friendly and inexpensive
Food was good, why so empty?. Dee’s Caf is a nice place. The food is very inexpensive and hearty. It appears everything is cooked in house. I had a Rice and Chicken soup for $3.50 and the chicken chunks were very big. They looked pulled off the chicken. The soup was simmering on the stove behind the counter. The ham and cheese grilled sandwich/panini for $4.50 came with a side pasta salad or coleslaw. Because the kitchen is open to the dining area, I saw Dee cut the ham fresh. Bottled drinks were $2.00 and can/juice/water is $1.00. Cookies are there for $0.75.Food is served table side by the cook. It was neat watching my food getting prepared. I’m not sure if you can get take-out there, but only because I’m too shy to ask about it. The decor feels like a small town restaurant. With black and white photos, and oldish pottery. One of the table sets looked like my aunt’s from 1950/60. A small tv playing CBC news on mute is in one corner. CBC radio provides backround noise. There’s only 4 tables with 12 to 14 seats in the entire place. It was strangely empty over thursday lunch hour. Makes me wonder if others know something I don’t.For $5.00 you can take home borscht and other soups from the fridge in the dining area. There are some other things available too, but I didn’t have a close look.I will be returning to this place.. oh, and CASH ONLY
Curry lentil & sweet potato soup to die for!. Always great soups and who knows what Dee will have for sandwiches any given day. Great Denver sandwich. I just usually ask for a bowl of soup and surprise me with any sandwich. I have never been disappointed ever. Keep up the great work Dee!
People’s Choice Soup Cook Off Champion!. I met Dee a few years ago and fell in love with THE best soup I have ever had. Dee puts a unique spin on many of her items that will fit anyones taste. Her selection changes daily so there is always a new option of what to eat. This lady is not only the soup master but can she ever make the best coconut curry chicken EVER. Aside from her soups which I cant begin to name them all (she keeps a frozen stock as well) her homemade dressing is outstanding….I put sh*t on anything, I cry and whine to her when I run out so she makes me the big jars!Try Dees Cafe for her homemade food as well as her catering!
