I’ve been eyeing these guys for a while now and was able to try Prairie Smoke BBQ at the K-Days Rib Fest. I ordered Half Rack Ribs. In my opinion, these ribs were probably the tastiest ribs I’ve ever had in a BBQ joint. They would have been my favourite in this K-Days Rib Fest if the ribs that I got wasn’t dry…
I can’t speak for the majority of their food but when we arrived they said they were sold out of everything except for the chicken so they offered a sample which apparently was worth ten dollars each and we ask for one coleslaw and received two. The chicken tasted good but the skin was what I would compare to chewing on new $20s, and the slaw tasted like pure apple cider vinegar. Then to top it off the people that came there next were told they are in luck! There was still some brisket, which made me want to throw their chicken jerky back at them. But I would still recommend trying there other items just because the flavour of the chicken. Defiantly not an award winning bbq cook in my opinion so far.
Love these guys. I used to work for smoke and spice so I have a slightly biased opinion but I miss working for them sooo much! Their food is so amazing, better than any meat I’ve had in a restaurant. They take the time and effort to do things right. My favourite was a tie between the pulled pork sandwich with cider slaw on top vs. their ribs. Also, the people who own and operate smoke and spice are really great, and down to earth. Check them out in Vic. Park most lunch hours during the summer. You won’t be disappointed.
If you like real BBQ, then don’t miss out on this place!. This guy is a bonafide KCBS BBQ champion. Although I don’t think his food is being served daily at a competition quality (how could it – no one could afford the cost!) you are missing out if you don’t give him a try. Family owned and run by some real good people. I am a very fussy eater, and I wouldn’t miss out on a morsel of food prepared by these guys!! Go give them a try!
Visiting from Saskatoon for the McCartney concert. The day after the concert we went downtown to try the food trucks. I tried the beef brisket at the Prairie Smoke truck with a side of beans. My first time with brisket and it was so tender and flavourful. And the beans were so good, with a bit of kick. The woman and man working the truck were chatty, friendly, and enthusiastic. The park setting in that area is really nice as well. A very good experience.
Mmmm I looked forward to this truck all winter and winter was freaking long. I personally love their cup of cue the pulled pork is to die for I have no problem standing in line for it yum yum. Keep up the great work guys!
A little underwhelmed. First time trying their stuff. Had the brisket plus the smoked beans. Brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender but a little bland. I should have put more sauce/au jus on it. Beans were ok. Maybe I was distracted by the nice day in the park and the people-watching, but I didn’t really get into the food. Some people sitting near me who had gotten the same stuff commented that they loved it, so maybe it was just me and I should try again. Service was quick and the owners seemed like nice people.
