We haven’t been here for quite a while. It’s a shame that they just don’t seem to have figured out how to run a restaurant. Someone asked me recently what it was like and I said it’s fine so long as you don’t expect anyone to take any notice when you walk in or offer you a menu and if youDon’t mind getting your own water!! The food is good. Service is slow. In the past I’ve stood at the desk waiting to pay for so long without anyone paying attention that I’ve been tempted to walk out without paying. My son told me that a while ago they had a Canadian running the place and he thought that he would show them how to operate a restaurant. It’s a shame because the food is excellent but the place needs to be operated in a more businesslike fashion.

While I had heard about Ethiopian food before, this was my first visit to a restaurant of the type. Coming in with an open mind I was a little disappointed to hear there were numerous menu items unavailable, including simosas. Not sure if I stopped by on a slow night but the level of menu items affected is inexcusable. I was also a bit grossed out by the condition of the bathroom, which should be spotless for a restaurant that traditionally serves food eaten by hand rather than utensils. That said, the dish I ended up with, beef tibs, was tasty, the salad seemed very fresh and I liked the spongy sour dough bread that comes with for dipping in the meat juices. Would like to try again and rate higher but this was my honest experience. Hostess was friendly and attentive and I feel like the place has its loyal customers who frequent it so it has potential if they address the items I mentioned.

We’ve been here once, though we had eyed this place in passing for quite some time. Like so many ethnic restaurants, the interior is pretty basic, with nice white table clothes and comfy chairs. We noticed a small handful of what we are guessing to be African people coming in to grab take-out while we enjoyed our meal. We were quite fond of our waitress, who was happy to answer questions and even sat down at our table to explain to us the process of making their unique coffee. Prices are outrageously reasonable! We’ve eaten at a number of Ethiopian restaurants in Toronto, and this was just as good. It’s so nice to know we have another place to eat at during our frequent visits! We tried the Traditional Experience Combo which gave us a great selection of flavours and textures, starting with two samosas, then a combo platter of foods and ending with the coffee ritual. Beef Samosa and Lentil Samosa: These were awesome! Uber crunchy, and absolutely packed full of ground beef and lentils, really nicely spiced. We could have eaten a plate full of these for our meal! The lentil one went particularly well with the tomato salsa. The sample plate included the kitfo, a minced beef with butter and mitmita spice mix, which gave the ground beef a bit of an orange color and was very tasty! The wot (an ethiopian stew/curry) chicken was killer, the exotic berbere sauce was earthy, smokey and spicy! Our veggie dish was the atkilt, green beans, carrots and onions which served to refresh our palates a bit after the heavier spiced meat dishes. Stewed potatoes and collard greens made up the gomen – yummy. Of course all of this is on the spongy injera, made out of teff flour. The coffee ritual is most interesting: traditional Ethiopian coffee is made out of a very specific bean with a most unique flavor. It comes in a small jug with two small cups. We found it quite strong so we put in a teaspoon of sugar into our little cup. What is most fascinating is the way the coffee changes flavor from one cup to the next. The first taste is dark and rich, the second lighter and fruitier. Some describe this fruity taste as blueberry though we’d have a hard time placing that specific flavor. A must do if you’ve never experienced it before

It’s the type of place you should go to if you have time and are out for dinner and not to simply fuel up. Was there last night and the food was excellent and flavourful. We had the ‘meal’ with appy, five selections and coffee. We didn’t quite get what we wanted as we were told only certain meat dishes could be selected but that was no big deal. It took a while from start to finish but having been numerous times before I knew that would be the situation. Another table near us was noticeably upset over the time and attention to their needs which was unfortunate. I’ll just say go with someone you want to visit with as the food is great but the service is quite slow (horrible). Also the prices are quite cheap.

ARE THEY CLOSED/ON VACATION/ CELEBRATING A HOLIDAY??? I’ve tried to call them for the past two weeks and no one answers the telephone. OR IS THE TELEPHONE JUST NOT WORKING, AS I HAVEN’T DROPPED BY THE RESTAURANT IN THESE PAST TWO WEEKS. I LOVE THEIR FOOD AND REALLY LIKE THE STAFF AND ENVIRONMENT…..I HOPE THEY’ll BE OPEN SOON. PLEASE CONFIRM, IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT MIGHT BE GOING ON. THANK YOU.

Poor Experience. I was quite excited when a family member asked me to come here for lunch, as I had passed it many times and always wanted to try it out. However, I was quite disappointed with the food and pretty much embarrassed by the service. My party and I had the buffet. It was okay, but not good. Our party waited almost 15 minutes to be served water, and were not asked another thing after that. We more than likely would have ordered drinks had we been asked. There was barely anyone in the restaurant, yet the waitress (and I’m assuming owner) simply sat at the bar in the back and did nothing. Then, when we were done, the waitress couldn’t have made it more obvious that she wanted us to get the heck out of there, even though the restaurant was closed at 2 and it was 1:30. I have read other reviews with similar experiences, and to me that shows that the owners of the restaurant don’t really care about their customers. I don’t support those types of businesses, nor will I be recommending this restaurant to anyone.
