Subpar food, but absurd pricing.. I’ve come here a few times, and didn’t really have a problem but the last visit I had. Put me off big time. I ordered an Omurice from Wasabi (south), it’s 15 dollars and for what it is, that’s pretty expensive. I’m thinking that it must be well made for it being priced above average. I was wrong. So very wrong. Usually, Omurice is fried rice with meat (chicken usually) in an omelette covered in a special sauce or ketchup. I wish I had a camera to take a picture of what Wasabi THOUGHT was an Omurice. For 15 dollars, I got 2 eggs scrambled on top of 1.5 cups of HOTDOG fried rice, then used one ketchup packet you get at a fast food place and put it on top. It wasn’t even presented in a omelette, it was just 2 eggs on top of hotdog fried rice. This is something I would make if I was a starving university student on a budget….Needless to say, I definitely feel ripped off. I know that the meal I bought for 15 dollars only cost less than 2 dollars to make on their end. Also heads up, Wasabi’s Donburi bowls are not worth it. Most of the time they are gross.
Reasonably good sushi at unlikely location…. I had been resisting going to this place for a long time. I was thinking that I was not going to go to a gas station for sushi. But my companion convinced me. She had been there a few times and said that it was good. So I did go. The place is separate from the gas station but in the same building. It looks like a take out outlet but there are a few tables. It was surprisingly pleasant to seat and eat there. Not sure why. May be it is the big windows (with a view of the gas pumps mind you); I’m not sure. But the sushi menu is extensive, the place looks clean and the raw fish was good and fresh. Who knew! Other than the well above average sushi, we made the mistake to order a garden salad (don’t bother with that; it consisted mostly of unappealing lettuce and was overpriced). Besides, the salad everything else we tried was good and they have these massive sushi rolls (one jumbo roll would be plenty for the average eater, too big for a small eater but, of course, not nearly enough for me). Most items were well priced. Not a bad place to go if you are in the south end and looking for a quick bite. It was a good decision that I overlooked the unfortunate location.
I have always enjoyed my food from Wasabi as I would order take out and it would be delicious and well priced for sushi. The last time I went (few months ago) my order was totally different than normal and I don’t know if they changed owners or chefs but I haven’t gone back as I didn’t love the new spin on the rolls. Maybe will give it another chance but there are just too many other places to go to first.
I had a beef udon today. It is just like sh*t. I think the instant noodles is much better than that! What’s more? That sh*t charge me 10 bucks! I will never eat there anymore!
