So good! My boyfriend had the rigatoni and said it was the best he’s ever had. They have $20 pasta and wine deals on Thursday. Can’t go wrong with that! Great service!
A group of five of us ate here. Fortunately there is a vegetarian option. We all agreed that the food was truly delicious. We had been advised by a friend that the portions are small but filling. And, indeed, the one who ordered the butternut squash risotto wished that there had been a little more. The one who had the scallopini would have liked a vegetable in addition to the meat and mushrooms. We all found the music too loud, and rather electronic which was odd given the visual ambience. I didn’t catch everything the waitress said about the day’s special although she was only one person away from me. However, she obligingly turned the music volume down when we requested.
We have been here a few times and always love the food served. We tried bone marrow for the first time here and have had it a few times since at other restaurants and they have never topped Primal. The portions are on the smaller end, but the fact that majority of the ingredients are sourced locally makes the prices worth it. The food is fresh and very tasty. I love the decor and the service has always been fantastic.
Visited Primal during YXE Eats. My partner had the event’s special menu: fried bread, tagliatelle with pork and beef heart bolognese, and a fruit/lemon dessert. I had the rigatoni with goat cheese and mushrooms. The fried bread was very good. I liked my dish, but found it a bit too rich and switched with my partner early on. Really liked the bolognese dish. Fresh pasta is delightful. Dessert was too overwhelmingly lemon for me. Decor is a bit too dark, and I like dark. Service was good.
edit: one month later (May 21, 2016) — Decreased by rating from 4.5 to 4.0 starsWent again a few days ago, and not much has improved. Notably, the restaurant is always quite empty when we go (6-8pm, once on Wednesday, once on Friday). This time, although about 2 other tables were filled, one of the tables seemed to be the waitresses friends.Prior issues: Serving size is still tiny. This time I ordered the pork agnolotti (see photo), which are basically small pillows of stuffed pasta. Each agnolotti was small, I could easily fit one pasta with some toppings in my mouth. There were about 12 agnolotti. 12 bites. For $18? … it was good, but the portion size was not satisfying. Around the table we agreed: for a very petite woman, the serving size was enough (but she could easily finish it). For a regular sized woman or man, the plate definitely left something to be desired. You can see in my photo of the agnolotti, the portion size is tiny compared to the fork that is pictured, and that is normal-sized fork. Somehow, the serving size of the tagliatelle had DECREASED. I didn’t take a picture this time around, but the plate looked very empty.Improvements: the fry bread was fluffier and more glutinous this time, which was enjoyable. Also tried the olives this time — i’m not a fan of olives, but I heard 2 reviews: one said the olives were good with the olive oil, another said the olive was very bitter.Original post:Lovely little restaurant! A tiny bit pretentious, a tiny bit overpriced, and the serving sizes could be a bit bigger, but there’s no denying they are good at making food!Went there on a date a few weeks ago and ended up ordering a bottle of wine, beef carpaccio, fried bread, tagliatelle, and carbonara. Food quality was amazing, and I can’t wait to go back.I do wish the serving size was a bit bigger though. I left the restaurant no longer hungry, but also not feeling extremely satisfied. Service was great, as was decor.
Primal never disappoints. Love coming here for a tasty meal made with fresh and local ingredients. The staff are awesome even when it’s busy. Come early if you don’t want to be stuck with the rush because every time we’ve came around 5 and right when we are about to leave it starts filling right up. They are clearly passionate about what they do and you can see that in the food. Very romantic setting and I also enjoy how they use candles at the table when it gets darker. It is for sure worth the price.
Food was well prepared, flavorful, presented nicely – we actually shared the rye spaghettini with beef brisket and fried house bread. Very delicious and just the right amount. Service was very friendly and prompt. Decor is great. Overall fantastic experience. Would definitely recommend.
