About
The building that houses Sashas Restaurant, Bar and Garden was built in 1921 and was the former home of T.V. Soong, financier and official of the Chinese Nationalist government between 1927 and 1949. T.V. played a significant role in 20th century history. He was a signatory to the 1942 Declaration by the United Nations, was instrumental in securing Chiang Kai-shek's release in the Xian Incident and was once reputed to have been the richest man in the world. Paul T.V. Soong was also the eldest sibling of the Soong Family, the clan that changed China. The Soong sisters often stayed at the residence and they and their husbands were amongst China's most significant political figures of the early 20th century. Soong Ai-ling married H.H. Kung (Chinese Premier), Soong Ching-ling married Sun Yat-sen (leader of the 1911 revolution) and Soong Mei-ling married Chiang Kai-shek (leader of the Republic of China). Sashas offers a unique western dining and drinking experience in this historical setting and the biggest beer garden in Shanghai. Lunch is available Monday to Friday and Brunch is available on weekends.
