Singaporean native Betty Ng the creative mind behind Ginger began her Shanghai culinary adventures 11 years ago, opening Ginger Caf on Fuxing Road W. Gingers innovative, Asian-inspired creations quickly gained a loyal following. Betty considers her current location in a heritage terrace overlooking a pretty park the greatest gift from the universe; an absolute dream. A hip place for guests to gather, yet retaining a warm and cozy charm, Betty has used earthy elements such as wood, copper, ceramic wares and leather to give the design an organic feel. The bold and colorful paintings by her good friend, New York-based artist Basmat Levin spice up the space across all three levels. Ginger takes pride in bringing modern interpretations of pan-Asian food with a focus on Southeast Asian flavors. The a-la-carte menu retains Gingers all-time favorites, including Chicken Tagine, authentic Laksa, Steamed Black Cod and Asian Dips. Betty continues to work her magic and add seasonal dishes to the menu, with care and attention to detail that goes into every plate. Its my passion to serve my guests and friends the food that I like to serve at home to my family. This begins with my selection of healthy and fresh ingredients, good quality oil and MSG freeresulting in nutritious and delicious food, says Betty Ng. All this is complemented with my love for interiors, to provide a great ambience to dine in and good personal service enabling guests to relax and indulge. In late 2016, Betty developed a new Wine Room concept on the first level, creating a casual dining and social space every evening from 5pm. The Wine Room offers a distinctive menu of small bites along with a sophisticated wine list. The balanced, flavourful small plates continue to celebrate Gingers contemporary approach to Asian recipes inspired by the continents herbs and spices and using locally sourced ingredients. Gingers house sommelier can suggest the perfect glass of wine for different Asian tapas choices. The candle-lit Wine Room provides a relaxed, intimate ambience that stimulates the palate and visually engages diners with an exhibition of bold artworks, sleek wall mirrors above the bar, and exotic flourishes collected during the owners world travels.
