Definitely recommend this place. Nice atmosphere and easy to get to. Order your Japanese Ramen here. I ordered fried chicken and braised beef ramen with a Kirin beer to wash it down. I will come back again. Cost for 2 people was $30 bucks. Worth it!
Marumen is a Japanese wooden shop providing sizable Ramen dishes & small plates. I visited Marumen last week and I had my order. The food was rich in flavors. My ramen had beautiful texture. It is an awesome place for Japanese styled Ramen. However their noodles were very salty. Either the chef mistakenly added the salt twice or if it is the usual flavor I hope they balance the amount of spices the next time I visit.
This shop makes Tsukeman Ramen in three flavors. Their broths are some of best in area after having eaten in 6 different shops in NoVa and DC. If you haven’t eaten Tsukeman you get two bowls one with noodles and the broth in the other. You just dip and repeat. Awesome. Come here!
Our large group arrived, as always, separately. The restaurant provided a large corner table for us and were very attentive as additional members of our party arrived, offering to take drink and appetizer orders almost immediately. We had 2 appetizers for sharing – Hashu Chashu and Karaage. The Karaage is fried chicken thighs while the Hashu Chashu is pork belly with tater tots. Both were excellent – filled with flavor and a good value for the money (read: portion size was reasonable even for what is considered a small plate). For the main meal, I opted for the Shoyu ramen with chashu and nitamago (pork belly and marinated egg). Because of the number of orders, delivery of our ramen took a few minutes – not enough to be a problem and in the interim, the wait staff was very attentive to our needs. The presentation is impressive with massive earthenware bowls and soup ladles. The ramen was firm and fresh, not soggy or water-logged. The broth was filled with flavor albeit a bit salty. The chashu, as in the small plate, was excellent. The nitamago was also good but a bit different for Western tastes. The yolk wasn’t hard-set so it was a bit gelatinous and therefore a bit more flavorful. Overall the restaurant is excellent – friendly, accommodating staff and excellent food!!
