Used to be the sweet heaven for me since childhood. The words sweets and Rookman used to be synonymous once. But now the quality has degraded a little. Nevertheless, the Bundiya Laddoo, the Kaju barfi and the Samosas are very good even now. But surpassing them, the half-cut samosa stuffed by partly-sweet filling and topping by dhaniya leaves (I’ve never cared to ask for the name of the sweet; have been loving it since years) is a Rookman specialty and a must try. Similarly, you’ll get the best Dhoklas in Guwahati in this sweet shop. So, if you want to have some quality sweets and can stand there for 15 minutes, you should visit this place. Staffs, like in every other sweet shops, are not very sweet. Nevertheless, it is a good place for some Rookman special sweets. In brief:Food: 4/5Service: 2.5/5Ambience: N/AValue for money: 4/5
I am not a huge fan of sweets and savoury(Indian) stuff so places like Rookman’s never caught my fancy, but my family loves this place and considers it as one of the better sweet shops in Guwahati. As far as my limited indian-sweet palate is concerned, i think the sweets are pretty tasty. I have tried the boondiya laddoo’s which are extremely rich(pics attached below), i could clearly taste the ghee and the flavour was very strong unlike the assameese sweet shops which are downright hopeless. I have also tried their rasmalai and kaju barfi(love both). I personally dont like gaund ke laddoo’s but the one’s from rookman’s are not bad. Coming to the savoury stuff, i have tried their samosa’s and i love them. Haven’t tried dhokla’s, but apparently they are very good. The staff here is the same as the staff you’ll find in every other sweet house, which basically means they are rude and not at all sweet(shocker right? haha). But it doesnt really matter since all we do is buy the stuff over the counter and get it back home.
The best place in Guwahati to have Dhoklas.Whenver i visit home, during my whole stay 60-70% of the time i buy sweets from this place only & mainly dhoklas. The rest of the sweets are quite bland and there are obviously better shops for sweets and confectioneries in Guwahati. The half-samosa is also pretty good. But alas the food is what really matters and I can honestly deal with the grumpy staff if it means that I’ll have a satisfying Dhokla experience. 3 out of 5 STRICTLY for the Dhoklas. 2 for the rest of the items and 1 for the staff.Best dhoklas in guwahati, used to be leaders in sweets too, but now off the track.
