I took katla fish thali( ₹150). They provided nice smelling rice, red masoor dal (Bengali style), awesome alu bharta mixed with raw onions, papad, alu bhindi bhaja & 1 mixed veg apart from katla machher jhol. I didn’t like the fish cut which was not a proper Bengali cut. It was that hole in the middle wala cut. The fish gravy was very light but tasty made with jira ginger etc. Masoor dal was awesome. Except fish everything else was for unlimited quantity. They refill it once u finish it. I took 1 plate mutton separately for which they charged ₹100 but the chicken pieces were small & the gravy was also not that great.. ok ok types. But staffs were cooperative more or less.
Really when I visited this place it literally felt I am in Assam, surrounded by people speaking Assamese, eating like the way we do, oh! The happiness of being at that place cannot be expressed in words. Ordered a mutton thali and tangra fish curry, it actually gave me a reason to be the happiest person that particular day. The taste, the smell, the rice and the curry is to die for. Really enjoyed the meal.
The food served here is what one can expect from an average Assamese restaurant. The food and its taste is such that it fully satisfies the taste of a Assamese and Bengali. The best one can try here is the thalis. All are equally good and the fish is served as per the cuisine.
Thisis a regional style resturant if you love a full stomach and if you love tasting regional foods u can try here. Recmended by me only if you want value for food
When I first came to Delhi, we checked into a hotel at Paharganj n being an Assamese this place surely caught our eyes. The food was great, n had an authentic Assamese – Bengali aura to it.
After we boarded our hotel at Paharganj, we went out looking for some bengali food and using zomato we found out this place because very few bengali restaurants were listed under it. Anyway we checked in here but the experience was deadly. We ordered Egg thalis and Vega thalis and found none of the food to be proper. Somehow we moved on.
