Lotan ke choley !!!!!Started in the bylanes of Chawri bazaar in late 1920s, Lotan is feeding masses with their spicy chole kulche and accompaniment in the form of chole ka paani or soup as some call it.Undoubtedly one of those gems which are a part of the street food history of Old Delhi. Many would say that these are overrated, may would say they are an overdose of chillies and nothing else and for those who are addicted to them you will find them waiting for their portions in a huge crowd well before the time they start selling. The guy scoops out the choley from a copper vessel, tops it up with a piece of potato, amchur chutney and a red spicy concentration of masalas added as per the spice level preferred (less, medium or high) and off you go with two kulchas. The chole ka paani as they call it is the water in which chickpeas are boiled for hours with garam masala and topped up with a dollop of butter in a plastic glass is an absolute delight as an accompaniment.I ate these spice bombs yesterday from their outlet in Krishna Nagar and loved them !!
One of the most overhyped and worst cholle kulche available here, too much red chilly which kills the taste and even the kulcha served are not of good quality, it’s overpriced too considering the product they give, I dont under stand why its overhyped by food bloggers. P.S: He says he is related to the original Lotan Cholle Kulche located in Chawri Bazaar. Overall a big blot in the name of Matar Kulche or Cholle Kulche as its popularly called in Delhi.
The food here was just average. I found it quite spicy although but the taste was definitely unique. Kulchas were properly served with chhole. But i think they can still improve a lot.
Worst cholley kulche ever had in my life so far, there was no taste in it but just chillies. Really disappointed !
