Dakshin at Sheraton Saket, has been one of the pioneer in serving authentic South Indian food in Delhi from a long time and continue to do so with its popularity only going up overtime. After hearing a lot about it over the years we planned to visit them for a lunch. The restaurant is situated on the first floor of the hotel and you have to walk through their gorgeous lobby to take the lift to that floor. The entrance is again decorated in a very South Indian way with diyas and the use of silver in the huge gate at the entrance makes things look very royal and grand. Enter inside the restaurant & you’ll find it lighted very brightly with a few big chandeliers, the tables having old school table clothes spread over them, an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs in action, everything contributing to an amazing fine dinning experience. We started our lunch with a “Basket of Papadum” served with four different chutneys. The chutneys were great and very different than the usual ones especially the tamarind based chutney. Next we ordered their “Rasam” which had an amazing mix of spices and worked and ensured we started our meal with a bang. The mix of spices was simply brilliant and the rasam which was served in a beautiful silver bowl, proved to be very appetizing.Next followed a couple of starters which not only were delicious but not too filling at the same time so that we could keep good amount of space in our stomachs for their main course and desserts which literally were the highlight of our meal. We ordered a “Sampooran Thali” which was a part of the chef curated menu and was really very extensive. It consisted of 6 different dishes from all over South India apart from the Malabar Parantha, Appam and tomato rice. The thali in itself was very huge and looked stunning. Each dish had a unique flavour and the spiciness level which made this Thali experience a really memorable & a complete one just like its name. We also tried their Veg Biryani named “Birinji” which was served along with a mix vegetable raita. The biryani was dum to perfection and the raita complemented the biryani beautifully. When you visit Dakshin, their “Badam Halwa” is something you cannot afford to miss. This halwa which was prepared using almond paste and a lot of ghee and sugar. If you are a halwa lover, then you are definitely in for a treat when you order it. We also tried the “Elaneer Payasam” which cardamom flavoured coconut milk topped with bits of tender coconut. It was a neutralising factor after having the give it all kind of dessert like the badam halwa. We complemented our meal with some butter milk and some fresh coconut water. And ended our meal with a perfect “Dakshin Kafi” which basically was the famous filter coffee which was prepared in a very eccentric way right on our table and we simply loved it and helped us digest all what we had for lunch. The staff here is absolutely superb. You are welcomed with a smile and this restaurant is bound to give you positive vibes right from the beginning. Chef Venu did his best in taking us through the whole menu which is quite extensive and his recommendations were impeccable.Overall, Dakshin totally showed us why it is rated so highly among its loyalists and why its always in the list of top South Indian restaurants in Delhi. From the diverse menu to impeccable service and a royal South Indian set up, Dakshin is a place you wouldn’t want to miss. Highly recommended! foodtraveletc.weebly.com
