The best Bengali Cuisine anyone can have in a restaurant , period ! That’s the one line review for Oh! Calcutta . We are patrons of this restaurant from its start in Delhi going there regularly though eating Bengali food at home . Their food is very homely but fine at the same time. Right now they are having the best time of the year – Hilsa Festival . Hilsa is known as the Queen of fish and rightfully so . Went for a dinner with the family and had our place booked from before hand . The restaurant was absolutely Full but our favourite seat was kept aside for us like always . It’s like a family we have in Oh! Calcutta . Their servers are so polite and have been there since the first day. The interiors are super classy , just like what one expects from a Fine Dining Restaurant . The music in the background are some of the best and most well known Bengali Tunes . This time we ordered – Murshidabadi Murgi Fry , Prawn Cutlet , Gondhoraj Bhetki for starters and Posto Narkol Ilish(Hilsa) , Aam Tel Ilish and Meghna Majhider Ilish. Before even the food is served you are served Papad along with 2 dipping sauces – Cucumber and Yoghurt and the Tomato Salsa like sauce. My personal favourite is the Cucumber Yoghurt but others vouch for the Tomato one too so both are good. For drinks would highly recommend their Pina Colada which is literally the best in any place even against 5star hotels , here it is true perfection(though not in the menu anymore ) . Food was served relatively fast even though the restaurant was full with even waiting line outside. The Murshidabadi Murgi Fry was great , very flavourful . It’s a dry Fried Boneless Chicken with a small outer coating. The chicken was Juicy like always . The Prawn Cutlet is definitely a classic and a dish we always order . The Cutlets are big in size and filled with prawns and a good mix of onions and other goodies. The Cutlet is served with Kasundi or the Bengali Hot Mustard Sauce and goes perfectly with the Cutlet. The Gondhoraj Bhetki is also another classic and a dish we generally always order. A steamed Bhetki Piece covered with Gondhoraj Lebu or Gondhoraj Lemon which is a legendary Lemon with amazing flavour and fragrance. The Bhetki is super Delicate and even more delicious something which is just unique to Oh! Cal . A wonderful dish indeed. For the Hilsa Festival we ordered the Main courses which I Mentioned before. The food was super fine , pretty decedent yet light at the same time . The Aam Tel Ilish is my mom’s personal favourite so she ordered that like always when we go for the Hilsa Festival. It is a Big Piece of Hilsa wrapped in Bottle Gourd leaf and Cooked along with a Masala which has Mango and Mustard Oil. The rice underneath is also Cooked with the same Masala and just taste superb with it . The Hilsa and rice combo is just amazing . The Posto Narkol Ilish is a classic Hilsa Dish of Bengalis which we all love . It looks a bit like Sorse Ilish or Mustard Ilish but is completely different . Narkol is coconut and Posto is poppy seeds which is an ultimate combination . We Bengalis live our Posto alot and with Coconut and Hilsa it is even better. It was rich and flavourful and the Hilsa was Boneless so was much less of a Hassel to eat while people who cannot de bone can also enjoy this dish . The Meghna Majhider Ilish is a new edition to the Hilsa Festival and had it for the first time , but definitely not the last . It was a Thick gravy made out of Coconut Milk and flavour with curry powder and really was just smashing in flavours , i really couldn’t decide which was better , this or the Posto Narkol Ilish. With both the gravy dishes we ordered rice and we were suggested to opt for Gobindo Bhog Rice which is kind of a sticky rice with short grains . And the server was right it just went perfect with the Hilsa Dishes. Finally for desserts we had Bhapa Sondesh or Steamed Sandesh and i ordered a Nolen Gurer Ice Cream. The Bhapa Sondesh were Amazing , melt in your mouth and slightly sweet in the perfect way . The Ice Cream here is also another classic as it has real Jaggery all with the Ice cream and just tastes amazing . Love everything at Oh! Calcutta – Fantastic Food , Superb Service and Amazing Ambience. Would like to thank Oh! Calcutta and their whole staff for making our experience amazing as always and a special Thanks to Mr.Kajal Biswas , Manager of Oh!Calcutta for his amazing service . Congratulations to Mr.Anjan Chatterjee for his great success in the restaurant industry like always .
