Astoria was one of the first hotels in Assagao, Goa. Entirely family owned and run the restaurant used to be slow paced and susegade and we never really did mind languidly waiting for our fish curry rice or whatever they could serve us that was the dish of the day. Over time the service has improved, the restaurant straightened out and now it does have a more professional look though you are greeted with the knowing smiles and welcoming looks from the hosts that makes you still think of the good ol days vanmasc.blogspot.com
I would love to give 10 out of 5 to this place, if there was a choice. Amazing food, nice local touch to the place and very welcoming hosts. Plus it’s surprisingly reasonable compared to places which charge a lot for their ambience. Had a very nice lunch with the pets they have.
A small restaurant in middle of Assagao on the way to Anjuna from Mapusa. A family run hotel. Visited this restaurant on the way back to Anjuna on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The restaurant deco in Old Portuguese style and is naturally cool because of the trees in the property. Ordered for crab curry, pork vindaloo and prawn head masala with some freshly baked local poee. The crab was fresh and spiced up well, it tasted to perfection and full of meat. The pork vindaloo had tiny bits of Goan sausages in it, which made a difference from the regular vindaloo. The pork was fresh and was cooked with spices from their own garden. The prawn head masala was spicy, it was cooked in onion and recheado masala and went well with poee. To gulp down ordered for homemade cashew fenny with tender coconut water, God it was amazing for a sunny afternoon. Not many people know about this place and might miss it very easily, the restaurant is just before “Gunpowder” on the same road. Don’t ask for the al carte, just ask for the day’s special.
Great ambience.. Wonderful juicy sea food.. Absolute delight.. Goan cuisine at its best.. 🙂 King prawns and fish are an absolute must taste dishes when you visit this place.. You can have beer too! Great place! Cheers!
If u wanna lay back with a serene ambienece clubbed with soft music and greenary around without any noise of traffic then this is the place. Though a old one but have some interesting features in n around the portugal construction. Do notice the window panes. Down to earth managers and owner, food tastes good along a drink in glass. Prawns is really tasty. You need to experience that joy with candle light, a galss of drink, some cheese cubes, chicken and prawns with variety of tress covering you and a soft music. Some drizzle of rain adds the beauty.Overall experience is really good. I enjoy visiting and have visited many times over there. You can speak about me to the owner Mr.Aaron reagrding this review and experience the same. You can also get the local goan taste food even. If you are about to head to north goa do visit this place. I enjoyed and keep doing so and hope even u enjoy.
