I was saying to a friend that I’ve become a bit of a coffee snob. Snob because I like my coffee a certain way- black, dense and bitter with very little acidity. And only a bit because I can’t swirl coffee in my mouth and declare which part of Venezuela (or Kerala) it’s from. Babka is close to my office and I like having coffee after lunch. It had just opened and looked like they’d have nice coffee. The first time I went there the friendly guy, who looks like he’s the owner, told me that the voltage was fluctuating so they couldn’t make coffee, not even French press. The eclairs on the counter looked nice, and, I didn’t want to give up on potentially good coffee so I went again in a few days. It was 3 pm on a Monday. This time the owner told me that they’d just opened so coffee would take a half hour to make. I thought screw it let’s go to the tried and tested places, but the adventurer in me persisted, so I ordered an Americano. It took the promised half hour to make and was orange in color, sour with acidity and possibly the worst coffee I’ve had in a long time. I decided to never go back. But then a friend, the same friend who I was saying to that I’m becoming a coffee snob, said to me that she can’t really tell between bad and good coffee. I told her that she should try Babka to find out what bad coffee tastes like. We made a bet and can you believe this, I went back to Babka again! And it didn’t disappoint. Based on my first two experiences, the first thing I asked the owner was “do you have coffee?” He rolled his eyes in condescension and said “obviously”. I literally smiled at the irony. He possibly thought I found his attitude charming. The coffee didn’t disappoint. It suffices to say that I won the bet. It was orange and acidic and definitely the worst I’ve had. I also ordered the eclairs, which was leathery and synthetic tasting and possibly the same piece I’d seen the week before. I find it very strange but many people in the food business in Goa consider food to be the least important component of their business. They think that a suave looking space with live performances and Israeli jazz is the magic recipe for success. Well, all those cool successful places that organise yoga and kalari at their premises, ALSO SERVE YUM FOOD. If you want good coffee go to artjuna or ruta’s or picalo Roma or mojigaon. If these are too far, go to leela cafe or even Tamarind, both of which are literally next door. Take it from me- I’m a wannabe coffee snob.

Beautiful place, I writing this while sitting at this place. It’s so european, feels like roadside parisian patisserie. Very subtle and classy.I am sipping on my Iced latte right now and it’s delicious and refreshing. They’ve serving amazing Third Wave Coffee roasters coffee. Haven’t ordered anything to eat but the desserts look classy. Will edit the review later and will share more about the food & desserts I had.

Cute coffee shop with many options for eggless desserts and cakes. The smoothie bowls are very refreshing and sufficient meal for a person.

Hands down one of the best places in Goa for some fresh coffee, pastries and breads. All items on the menu made in house and will surely take you to a trip down the Parisian memory lane. The place is done up very well and the service is very quick. A great Cafe in Goa that serves fresh brewed coffee. Do try the Greek omelette and the pan cakes as well.
