  • The Tingling Taste Buds

Le Meridién at Calangute is hosting an event that showcases the Kunbi tribe of Goa and their home grown recipes passed down through the ages. Together with Chef Sylvanus, members of the Women of Fatorda dish out some of the wondrous yet lost flavours of Goa. Don’t just sit back and drool, head on over to the hotel and indulge! The event runs upto the 24th for both lunch and dinner! Check out the highlight to see the menu of this food festival. We tried the Neer Fanas Kappa, Fisherman’s BBQ, Bangado Recheado, Gavali Bhaji, Chandrawado Mutton Curry, Goenchi Bhajichi and Kombdi Biryani, Amot Tikat, Mixed Veg Xacuti and Bhindiche Hooman.Kappa is a dish that is very popular across the Goan households. Here at Le Meredién, these were prepared beautifully using the local masalas. Kappa have always been our favourite and rava fry just made it even better. Do try it out to experience the essence of local Goan food.Kingfish, one of the most common seafood in Goa is used for Fisherman’s BBQ. Kingfish fillet cut in half and marinated in a unique mix of BBQ masalas. It was then delicately panfried and served. The fish was marinated and cooked very well. A must try!You might wonder why the recheado masala looks brownish and not red like the normal reachodo one might find in Goa. That’s because the masala used here has been prepared using only the local spices and condiments, without any food colors. This is something that really impressed us. And, the fish was cooked beautifully. The Gavali Bhaji is a slow cooked potato bhaji with a taste very different from the usual Goan potato bhajis. Every piece of potato that we had was cooked perfectly and carried with it the impeccable masala combined with some freshly grated coconut. This dish was without a doubt our most favorite among the lot. A big thumbs up!Chandrawado Mutton Curry was another dish with some authentic Goan flavors. The meat was so tender that it fell off bone. Coming to the gravy, the flavors were very similar to how it is prepared in the Goan households.Every dish we tried was up to the mark and we could not pick out any faults. Cheers to this wonderful concept by Le Meridién, Goa that not only showcases the authentic homemade food of Goa but also gives a chance to the Women of Fatorda to experience cooking at a hotel.
