Built beneath a 300-year-old majestic banyan tree is one of the best and perhaps the most acclaimed restaurant for Thai cuisine in Goa. The Banyan Tree is situated at Taj Holiday Village and has been serving an assortment of delectable Thai dishes for quite some time now. Their endeavour for perfection & quality food is made manifest by the in-house herb and spice garden that they pick from for their dishes. In the recent past however, they decided to craft a menu that would entice both, people familiar with Thai cuisine as well as those new to it, by incorporating Thai flavours in familiar dishes; and the result is amazing! We sampled a few of these tantalising dishes and were left gobsmacked by the creativity and deliciousness of each of them. Read on for the details. We tried:1) Drinks and Soup- Pattaya Cooler, Litchi Martini, Chicken Tom Yum Soup2) Starters- Thai Herb Hummus, Som Tam (Raw Papaya Salad), Thai Egg Benny, Thai Chicken Pizza, Phad Khi – Mao Kung (Spicy Stir Fried Prawns)3) Mains- Moosannai Prik Thai Dom (Pork), Kaer Yang Bamunpai Thai (Lamb)4) Desserts- Makroot Scented Dark Chocolate Mousse and Sangkhaya Phak Thonc (Sweet Pumpkin Custard)Both the cocktails were a perfect mood setter while the Soup just took us to Thailand. It was absolutely impeccable and definitely something we’d recommend for those who love spice and authentic Thai cuisine.Eggs Benny consists of poached eggs on a seaweed sago shell with a crab cake and spicy lemongrass remoulade. The remoulade had an enticing flavour that complemented and elevated the entire dish. The highlight was definitely the beautifully poached eggs. A lovely Thai rendition of a classic American recipe. A Middle Eastern dish with a Thai touch, the hummus was a perfect start to the meal to follow. Try Banyan Tree’s take on pizza, an amalgamation of some delicious and authentic Thai flavors.Among the mains, the pork dish had to be one of the best dishes of the day. Succulent pieces of pork marinated so perfectly, that every bite embodied the true Thai flavours. The balance is impeccable and the use of Bird’s eye chilli for some heat is a perfect add on. The lamb was delicious too. Make sure to specify how you prefer your meat cooked, as each one prefers it their own way.And a perfect end to a perfect meal! Both the desserts were simple yet decadent.Check out our Instagram page for details of our experience!Post 1: instagram.com/p/B0OXrmCjB6JPost 2: instagram.com/p/B0TgyWhj60rPost 3: instagram.com/p/B0YqVfcDjEHPost 4: instagram.com/p/B0c1zOvDPl4
Setting is beautiful. Service is superb. Food was amazing. Their Thai fried rice is one of the best I have ever eaten. The soft shell crab was nice. Tab Tim Krob was great too. Definitely worth a visit and enjoy the views of the 350 year old Banyan tree and the live singer.
