The food was great.. We enjoyed it.. A bit expensive but the taste was good.. But the service was pathetic.. For each and every order or extra service, we need to ask them 3-4times.. It was a bad experience for us with a good food..
It is one of my standing statements that if you’ve been to Goa and not eaten at Horizon Grill, then you’ve not been to Goa at all. I would like to categorically state, straight off the bat, that yes, Karlton does work with all kinds of food – from seafood, to vegetable, to meat. However, it is the last one that the restaurant is known for, and is the claim to fame of the establishment. In fact, when it comes to great food, I have never been one to place a premium on the concept of ‘value for money’. However, that is something that is often called into question in Goa, especially along the coastal belt. It is here that I would like to insert a little anecdote. My mother isn’t a huge fan of the huddled masses in the over-populated northern belt. However, as we were passing through Candolim one afternoon, I recommended that we stopped by there for a bite to eat, before we proceeded on our journey further south. My mum agreed, albeit only to humour me. While she isn’t one to devour massive portions, she’s a fair eater, who scarcely made it through 50% of her main course. As Karlton ambled over, amicably (as he always does), she asked him why on earth the portions were as large as they were. To this, he merely grinned and said, “Are you not satisfied with your meal and all you could eat of it? That is all we aim to accomplish here. We don’t believe in the concept of fancy plating, if you have walked away from the restaurant feeling like you could have eaten more.” That encounter has stuck with me, and I have played it over in my head for eons. Quite frankly, that is exactly what you will get, if you venture down to Karlton’s, no matter where you’re from. From that outing, satisfaction is always guaranteed.
In a simple word- The Beef Wellington is my go to dish. The crowd is eclectic and the service spot on. Allow for 25 mins- that is well worth the wait. A must visit in my opinion for the choicest meats and grills in the tourist belt of Goa
Nice and decent place right on the main road. Famous fir its steak and beef dishes. We were in mood for indian. I like the honesty of the manager about indian cuisine. He said we are good but dont compare us with ‘Dilli Darbar’ type places 😉 and we found the food was pretty decent. Ch. Tikka masala was good n tasty as any other regular places. Ch. Do pyaza was really good. Flavor was perfect and very well done chicken. Tawa chapatis were very good.Fresh lime soda was fresh n bubbly for few minutes then went flat too soon. Vanilla penacota was perfect.Service 4/5Ambience 3/5Food 3.5/5Courtcy 4/5
The best grill bar around if you’re staying in Candolim. Ordered Chicken lollipops, Corn soup and Chicken Stroganoff. Lollipops we’re perfectly done, crispy on the outside and soft juicy on inside. Stroganoff had just right consistency. Soup was a little bland but not too bad either. Top marks!
I missed their Beef Wellington by apparently just a couple of minutes (although I wonder how is that possible, if they claim to make it from scratch) so I chose to opt for the steak and onion pie. Nice juicy chunks of steak but the pie was a disappointment. For starters, it was slightly burnt at the top and slightly undercooked on the inside and horror of all horrors, it wasn’t a a short crust pastry pie. It was more of a biscuit cover. The fillings was good. Chunky chunks of well seasoned and done steaks and crisp onions. The slow braised beef was good too, although I suspect it was the same filling as the pie, just julliened and not cubed.Decent desserts, Panna cotta (which for me is nothing but China Grass) and a choco lava cake with vanilla ice cream. Nothing earth shattering, but nothing to fault either
Famous for it’s continental food and grills, Karlton’s Horizon Grill is located at a walking distance from Candolim Beach. With many eateries and good restaurant’s around; Karlton’s exteriors and open spaced seating arrangements is what drive people into the restaurant! We went in around 2pm for quick drink and lunch and the place was seemingly empty and peaceful. Interiors and seating arrangements were confortable and eye catchy! Service is quick and responsive. After gulping in a few vodka’s we asked for Chicken Lollipop as a side accompaniment. Order arrived quite quick and looked good. However it tasted mediocre with more substance in the outer coated besan filling than the chicken itself. Schezwan sauce served alongside was good and salad was refreshing but felt unnecessary on plate. For lunch we called in for Butter Chicken and Rice. Rice quality was good since it was basmati however quantity was disappointing. Butter chicken had good chunks of boneless chicken however gravy tasted too sweet to our liking!Overall it’s a decent place to enjoy a drinks or few. Food can be avoided since it is expensive and not upto the mark from our experience atleast. Cheers!
