Imagine your favourite Panipuri vaale bhaiya stuffs your mouth with a scoop of ice cream dripped in Imli Chutney? Gross, right? Tell you what, a dessert shop does something similar to that (except the stuffing part), and honestly it will blow your mind away.Vadodara locals will know how popular a place Dairy Den circle is, and the shop itself is always crowded. However, adjacent to the famous Dairy Den is a dessert parlor named FICH or Fruit Ice Cream Hunt; I know the abbreviation sounds a lot better. The shop size is somewhat similar to every quaint dessert parlor you will find in every city, and there isn’t anything breathtaking about the decor as well. It was more of an innocuous accident that we had stumbled upon FICH, but soon we realized we have unearth a hidden gem. The owner is the real deal here, although I forget his name, he knows the ice cream he is selling and is extremely informative and jolly. He asked whether we would try their specials and as soon as I glanced my way through their ice cream basket I saw Ginger Honey and Panipuri. I was asked to taste the Ginger Honey, and I was bowled over immediately. Their USP? All these specials had authentic ingredients, which intensified the overall feeling. The Jamun had chunks of Jamun and was served with rock salt sprinkled over it; the Guava one had chili powder to go with it ( I kid you not!). They use minimal sugar and much of the taste comes from the original fruit or product itself. I was hesitant to try the Panipuri one as I could bear with Ginger Honey, but to imagine Imli flavored ice-cream was a tad too much. Again, it tasted wonderful, and it grew on me in a jiffy. Our next visit had us in splits as they had introduced few seasonal flavors and a set of quirky ones as well. Puran Poli and Gajar ka Halwa flavored scoops were a delight, and to cut on the sugar we had coffee walnut and also an evenly flavored cinnamon scoop as well. They have introduced Tulsi flavored ice-cream, and I was amazed at their audacity, although it didn’t really leave a mark on me. However, the Modak flavored scoop was delicious as hell! They have these 9-wonders dish where they serve 9 quarter scoops of their unusual items at 375/-. Most of the scoops are priced at 70/- and you can also order the same in form of shakes. You will find Rabdi as well, and the dry-fruit Rabdi wasn’t a bad experience. I will recommend to take a shot at FICH for the uniqueness and also the range of flavors they provide. Kudos to their owner and also the staff who are keen to walk you through their menu.
