That place is my first fine dining experience in Vadodara whose location and ambience reminds me of popular cafes situated in the lanes of Southern Avenue in South Kolkata.On a lazy Sunday afternoon where the roads of Alkapuri remained deserted, we weren’t surprised to find handful of people only. Now coming to the ambience; I was impressed with the contrasting colours and choice of furniture as they were enough to keep your Sunday blues away. There were sets of tables catering to a large group, date tables by the window, and of course cozy sofa setting as well. It can host 60-70 people at a time and has a small book shelf although you will not find anything interesting there. Coming straight to the menu and food now;I have rarely seen a café in Vadodara with such a high end menu, and had my hopes up as well, so we ordered in:Asian Chilli Fish: I am pretty sure they didn’t use Basa fillet but the dish was excellent as the dressing was spicy but didn’t left us gasping for water.Crispy Lamb: The meat was juicy and tender but the outer coating was crisp which had made all the difference. The sautéed veggies complimented both the starters.Iranian Chelo Kebab: I don’t know about any other Chelo Kebab, but if you are someone who has tasted Chelo Kebab from Peter Cat, there is no way in anywhere you are going to pass this off as Chelo Kebab. It had an almost poached egg, Lamb Bhuna spread over Herb Rice and complimented with sautéed veggies. The Lamb Bhuna did taste right but given the name, it wasn’t up to the mark.Grilled Jerk Chicken: It is a waste of time to order chicken breast and expect it to be tender, and same story here as well. Although the portion was large and enough to satiate an adult, felt the meat could have been a tad tender. Although the spices were used well, but there wasn’t anything excellent about it.Nasi Goreng: I have had 3 different Nasi Goreng from 3 parts of India, and I am unable to conclude which one was closer to the authentic dish. It basically means fried rice, and mine was no different although I did expect it to taste better. Not filling as well.Chunky Lamb: Spread over a plate full of Mashed Potato and as the name suggests chunks of Lamb cooked in loads of spices, tasted better than most of the dishes. Although the mashed potato was tad too sweet and did expect a small portion of herb rice with it.Overall, I wasn’t blown away by the food there and the staff was courteous but had very little knowledge about their own food. The original rating should be 3.5 as 3 is a little too harsh but certainly not a 4 star experience. However, the ambience is a real bonus here.
