Ambience is quite good.Service is very very slow.Food: I liked only pasta rest of the things were ok. We asked their suggestion for veg starter and they suggested potato harra. When they served it was nothing but aalu bhujiya usually prepared in north India, so please do not get overwhelmed by seeing exotic names..falafel also tasted more or less like wada. Overall ok. They need to improve.
For starters we had arayes and albondigas. Arayes are kubbus stuffed with spinach, nuts and grated haloumi cheese, I found them bland for my taste. Albondigas are spanish style meat balls which turned out to be good. Penne Arrabiata was great just as I wanted. We tried their most recommended dessert called Kunafa which is like a seviyan (vermicelli) pastry and it was delicious. Would recommend to try this place if you like mediterranean.
More often you need to escape the crowd and give yourself the ‘me time’ that you keep yearning for. No, you need not travel to the forest or mountains to find the much-needed respite, you can actually look for the cozy corners hidden in your city streets. Bonum Cibum is one such cafe!! It’s done up in pastel colours, It has a European feel to it. One click at this café and you are sure to get flooded with likes on your Instagram. There are lights hanging down from the ceiling making it a sight to behold. Make sure to binge on the delectable Mediterranean food available here. My favorites wereChatpata mango berry (Mocktail)Pineapple and choco cookies with pomegranate tea cakeHot mezze platter had Egyptian beef kibbeh, Egyptian veg kibbeh, eggplant&halloumi parcels and falafel.Mixed manakeeshBaklavaKunafaUmm Ali
Bonum Cibum literally translates to good food. It’s a Mediterranean restaurant started by a couple who strive to serve hearty, wholesome and nutritious food without any compromise on the quality. Mediterranean food in general is more meat based but they made sure that there was something special for the vegetarians as well The ambience is very cute with shades of pastel that are both Greek and Italian inspired. We started with a couple drinks- rooh afsa mojito, pomegranate and apple muddler and chatpata mango drink which were all refreshing and cleansed the palate. They are launching a new High Tea menu from the 15th of December. We got to try a few of those items which included pineapple cookies, pomegranate cake, orange muffins and chocolate chip cookies which were all made from scratch and made in house. The cookies especially were buttery and melt in the mouth. We tried the hot mezze platter which included Egyptian beef Kibbeh, Egyptian veg Kibbeh, eggplant and halloumi parcels, feta cheese and goat cheese börek and falafel. The concept of a mezze platter is to share. It brings together all the people in a table. The falafel and the Kibbeh tasted fantastic with the lemony hummus. The eggplant and halloumi parcels were spectacular. I hate eggplant but I loved these. The warm and gooey halloumi cheese with the char grilled eggplant was really good. The böreks were lovely too. Usually feta cheese is used cold and in salads since it’s on the saltier side but these piping hot böreks with the warm cheese inside was fabulous. We also tried the cold mezze platter that included three types of pita- one with cheese, one smeared with za’atar (a middle eastern spice mix that has a sour taste because of the sumac) and another smeared with pomegranate spread served with hummus (chickpea dip), baba ganoush (roasted eggplant and tahini dip), muhammara (roasted red bell pepper dip), moutabbal (another smokey eggplant, tahini and yogurt dip), fattoush and cous cous salad. Everything on the platter was authentic and perfectly made. The others tried some koftas, kebabs and Arabic mix grill platter with 4 flavoured Arabic rice. For us vegetarians there was hara bhara kebab which was specially made for us. They also served a chickpea and feta stuffed kebab which was so delectable. We also tried the mixed manakeesh or manakish which is like a Levantine pizza. It is essentially a pita base smeared with fermented yogurt topped with cheese and za’atar. This one was topped with cheese, olives, mushrooms and za’atar. It was very flavourful and delicious. The dessert platter included kunafa, baklava, Muhallabeh (or muhlabia which is a Persian milk pudding), umm Ali and sweet pastillas. The phyllo pastry in most of them was spot on. It was flaky and crunchy. Finished with some sugar syrup on top, it was quite good. This has to be one of the most authentic Mediterranean food that I’ve tried in Bangalore. If you’re a meat lover, you’ll love this place but even if you’re not, and want to experience an authentic meal, they have many things for vegetarians too.
