Place where vintage meets modern , colonial architecture meets modern architecture and classic Indian cuisine meets modern Indian cuisine. True to the accolades collected throughout the journey this place will surely steal your heart with its yesteryear’s charm.Facade is done so well, whether it’s the windows, crafted furniture, flooring , walls lights, punkahs , bar counter and the very entrance.Food and Cocktails are worth the hype and try.Few of thr tried and tested favourites are DRINKSRangoon Connection Cocktail Oolong Tea Based Cocktail Ooty Sunset Mocktail FOODSesame Chicken StripsChicken Olive NoisettesWood Fired Flat Breads: Mixed Sea FoodMackerel Karachi Spiced Lotus RootDESSERTChocolate Eton Mess
Well, it’s not everyday that you have a wonderful experience when you dine out! Punkah house is definitely the place to be. With colonial vibes, rustic yet classy architecture, the community house feels and the great food that they offer, it is definitely one place now which tops the list for me.This place opened in June this year and it’s just recently that they opened for lunch. I happened to visit them on a rainy Sunday and had a great time treating myself to some amazing food fare. Foxnut Jhalmuri and Karachi spiced lotus root are my picks amongst the quarter plates. These served as a perfect accompaniment with the cocktails we ordered in. They have some brilliant Gin based concoctions to offer, their take on Gin and Tonic is a must try! In the small plates, we tried a variety of stuff, the sweet potato chops and Mushroom crumble were my absolute favorites. The Rustic chicken dumplings in chilli pepper broth was their take on floating dimsums and we loved it!Moving to the main course, we kept the affair simple with hoppums, their take on the classic appam with various combinations of water chestnut and asparagus in the vegetarian segment and old Bombay brain scramble and pepper fry beef in the non vegetarian section. I loved the brain scramble, which tasted like mutton keema and was absolutely delicious. In the desserts, I had their Toffee cheesecake with bourbon Caramel, probably one of the best cheesecakes that I have had in recent times, a must try! We also happened to try their aged fruit cake which is their Christmas special which had Gingersnap ice cream and banana fosters, loved it!I am definitely heading back soon, such good food to try out! If you are looking for a sophisticated gastronomic spot in Indiranagar with colonial vibes then head to Punkah House in 12th Main.Punkah House is now open for lunch and they celebrate the good old times where India-Burma-Ceylon had many things in common when it comes to a gastronomical affair. The food and bar menu has a wide range of options available with interesting names which will take you back to a different era. What I liked most – *Drinks *Pegu Imperial – The Victorian-style Burmese Club essential which had Gin, raspberry and lemon; a perfect drink for my liking.Bengal Sour – Another favorite from the curated cocktails menu which had Tequila, triple sec, homemade raw mango shrub.Brigadier – From the ‘Barrel-aged cocktails’ menu, this drink was presented in a classy way. The concoction made of Bourbon, absinthe, coffee and orange bitters and angostura bitters was pure bliss.*Food*The food here is simply fabulous. Each dish had distinct flavors and textures. If you are confused about the food menu, then ask suggestions from the sauve Chef Akshay. I enjoyed the Foxnut Jhalmoori, Rustic Chicken dumplings which comes with a chilli-pepper broth, Not-so-Wasabi lollipops, Jamun Ceviche, Sweet Potato Chops, Chorizo Vada and mushroom crumble. These classic dishes are something you must try when you visit Punkah House. From the main course menu, I loved their Pepper Beef fry hoppums and Yangon noodles (Chicken). Being a Mallu, I can vouch for the hoppums they serve – perfectly cooked and the right balance of flavors was experienced. After a heavy meal and long conversations with friends who are like family, we ended our lunch on a sweet note with their Toffee Cheesecake. This dessert will blow your mind.Overall I had a great time at Punkah House and would love to visit again. The vibes of this place are brilliant and it’s a perfect place to take your date or even for a formal meeting with your client. yougottatryit.in
This is one elegant place, to begin with. The caricature on the inside is of the 19th century, with antique artifacts and decors. On the food front, it is great. Only a few times till date I have had really good lamb meat, Punkah House being one of those to have delivered. Ambience is really nice. People can actually listen, without howling at, each other. The staffs are well informed about the dishes they serve, hence they suggest the right item for the right hunger. Quantity of food is very standard and specific. Affordability is on the tighter side. Therefore, folks with humongous hunger should avoid this place. Perfect spot for date night though.
I recently moved to Bangalore and there are so many restaurants in my neighbourhood – especially on 12th Main – that committing to one feels daunting. But I’m happy to announce that not only is Punkah House the best restaurant in Indiranagar, it’s the absolute best in the city. The food here is experimental, modernized, and justifiably expensive but it is one of those restaurants that you won’t be able to shut up about until at least two people from your social circle try it for themselves. My favourite item on the menu is the sweet truffle cream appetizer. It’s this beautiful thing that happens when intensely flavorful yogurt, truffle oil, and a smattering of herbs join forces on your plate. When it came to the table, it looked like a blank plate with a few drops of coloured oil but we dipped the crackers into the plate and realized that the entire black slate canvas was painted, corner to corner with this beautiful dip. It looks like a piece of art so maybe you should marvel at it for a few minutes and it was certainly the most exceptional thing I’ve eaten in 2019.The himalayan dumplings with spinach and bamboo shoots may not be for everyone but to me it’s a dish that’s just crazy enough to work. If you’re feeling less adventurous, the mushroom dumplings are really good too.On Sundays, Punkah House serves pitch-perfect asparagus and waterchestnut hoppums and their brunch menu helped me finally understand what that underrated south indian variation on dosas is actually supposed to taste like. And this particular hoppum is the benchmark against which I’ll forever measure other hoppums. Absolute divine.Punkah House also has a fantastic selection of cocktails – my personal favourites were the New Republic with jasmine and tulsi tea vodka and Rangoon Connection with Pisco sour but Pisco is hard to source in India so sometimes they’ll swap it for vodka or gin. Finally, I couldn’t end this review without stating that Punkah House is located inside a gorgeous, historic building and is a breathtakingly beautiful and nostalgic space. To me, the epitome of accessible luxury.
The place was much hyped but was not at all upto my expectations. Excellent: Service was super. Extremely courteous staff! And valet parking.Good: Ambience was good. I tried Shimla Passion punch which was good. Also, the ingredients used in all the dishes very fresh. Himalayan Dumplings were good.Bad: Main disappointment was the experimentations they have done with the cuisine. Hoppum is just our good old appam. Malgudi village is just a Kerala type thali with thick rice and pachadi. And worst was the Berry Sorbet in the middle of Chocolate eton mess.Maybe they can still improve on the menu and make it less confusing. All the best guys!
Finally visited Punkah House and I witnessed the colonial era ambience in its glory. I must say I found this place pretty cool. Starters were mind blowing and I was really well taken care by Pempa who literally went out of his way to help me out in all things food and drinks. Many thanks to him! Must visit!
