The only place I would not mind standing in line for dosa. Their masala dosa is so crispy and so loaded with ghee I ate 4 dosas(i normally cannot eat more than 2). Their chutney is okay okay. It is very crowded on weekends and its a small place so theres a huge waiting line but its worth it. They also have lemon rice and idli but i only tried masala dosa.
Siddappa hotel is a 3 decade old, small eatery in Sampangiram Nagar(located near corporation circle) started by Siddappa and his family at their home. They are mostly known for their dosas and is open only in the mornings between 8.30 and 11.30/12.00. This has been on my wish-list for over an year after watching numerous YouTube videos showering it with praises. A sudden call from my friend asking if I had my breakfast yet led us here today morning:)Ambiance:-There is no board with hotel’s name on it! But every other person in that locality would know where it is situated, so not hard to spot it:)-There is enough parking space outside followed by serpent stones sheltered by 2 big beautiful trees and then the mess.-It feels like we have time traveled back a few decades as we enter the mess. There is limited but comfortable benches and no tables. A few bottles will be lying around for the customers.Service:-We will have to stand in the queue(long during weekends) outside till there is a vacant space inside. Then we are called in and assigned a seat. We’ll have to tell the super busy waiters what we’d like to eat. Most of the items arrive in no time but Half masala dose would take around 40 minutes. After we’re done with the food, we’re politely asked not to spend more time with an empty plate as a queue usually awaits. We’ll have to ask how much the food costed and the cash is paid outside to the owner himself–> Siddappa, the man with thick white mustache sitting on a stone slab:)Food: Menu limited to dosa, idly and rice bath(varies every day). These are served on a plate with plantain leaf.-Rice bath: This tasted good but wish it was served hotter.-Thuppa Khaali dosa: Fluffy dosa served with chutney and sagu. On the sight of it, I was put off as I usually don’t go for non crispy dosas that makes me feel too full too soon. But every bite of the dosa served here melts in mouth:)-Idly: Soft and fluffy just like khaali dosa.-Half masala dosa: This one is as crispy as a papad served with potato palya. Though this is recommended by fans, I liked Khaali dosa the most.Must try: Every item especially Thuppa khaali dosa.Conclusion:-It’s the whole experience of having the food here that brought a lot of joy:)-5 dosas, 1 plate idly and rice bath only cost us Rs.190.Food: 4/5Service: 5/5Ambiance: 5/5QFM: 4.5/5
