I had a lovely, decadent, elegant, well attended high tea. We called for one Indian and one Western set. Every single food item presented was made to perfection. The mille feuille was my personal favourite. Each bite will transport you straight to chocolate heaven. We were waited upon most patiently by Ms. Chandana, who really added to the regality of the evening, whilst ensuring that every cup of tea was brewed to perfection. It is an experience that one must give oneself, as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Ideal for a cosy, very elegant and classy date.

The afternoon tea here definitely makes for a nice treat! All the food came out looking very pretty and colourful on a patterned three-tiered stand: sweets on top, savouries in the middle, and scones on the bottom. The savouries—babaganoush wraps, and the especially pretty and very neatly cut cucumber sandwiches for me; the same, along with a chicken mousse (?) canape and a smoked salmon sandwich for my friend—were especially good; as were the iced eclairs, the custard tart topped with figs, and the mini lemon loaf. The scones were okay; I didn’t really like either the jam or the cream they came with, so will probably ask for some butter to go with them next time. My Earl Grey came out with a nice matching tea set and went well with the food. Our server was very friendly and quick to bring out more food and refills. It all actually proved to be surprisingly filling as it was, but they do also offer extra plates of all the food. All in all a really great place for tea!

Start with basking in the slowly reducing sharpness of a weakening sun, in the quiet loveliness of a lounge, and stay till twilight supping on a variety of teas and scones and an array of desserts….if this sounds like your kind of zen, then Lobby Lounge is a place that will appeal to you. My friend loves hi-tea which is a great tradition in the 5* and 7* hotels in many cities across the world – but not true of Bangalore, hence there are possibly very few hotels with a good hi-tea menu (my friend has already tried some and this was her summary). Ride up the elevator to the beautiful lobby lounge at Ritz Carlton and seat yourself in the canary yellow high backed winged chair and chill before asking your steward for the hi-tea. Here it is a set menu and not a buffet. The tea and coffee is unlimited. They get you the entire set menu for each at once in a three tier serving tray that looks so scrumptious you will not feel like disturbing the arrangement. The top two plates have desserts and the plate at the bottom has savouries. This is typical of hi-teas that they have more desserts and on an average the 5* have really good desserts vs the savouries. Same here though I enjoyed the savouries as well. The quantity looks deceptively less but overall it is actually very very filling and I could not eat the entire lot. I specially enjoyed the smoked salmon savoury and the fresh made scones and madeleines that came at the end of the hi-tea.The service was on point. For my vegetarian friend, they replaced the non-veg savouries with some other veg items off the menu. For the teas, the regular jasmine and chamomile were really good and enjoyable, so was the coffee. Of the other teas that we tried – the ceylong souchong I liked but my friend did not take to the Dombagastalawa Estate tea that she’d ordered. Overall a very relaxing lazy afternoon on a weekday, by the time we got out we felt we had gone to a spa or something. Don’t forget to spend a few minutes enjoying the beautiful breezy Bangalore air sitting outside near the foyer of this beautiful hotel while you wait for your car/cab.If you have Zomato Gold, it is fantastic as you can enjoy a hi-tea for two at the price of one. And since it was my friend’s birthday treat, the pianist played the birthday tune which felt special, so did the beautiful yummy complementary birthday cake. Thank you Ritz- Carlton for a wonderful afternoon!
