Awadhi Cuisine claims its birth from the city of Nawabs, Lucknow. These Nawabs were from a distant land called Persia and they came to this country as Deputies for Moghuls and ended up being kings ruling the kingdom of Awadh. These Nawabs had a very lavish lifestyle and were used to a particular style of cooking which involved in No Oil but just Ghee. Fruits & Dry Fruits were the other prominent ingredients on the list. In Awadhi food aroma plays an important role & hence Gulab Jal (water) & Kewda, saffron plays a vital role.Detailed post on blog http://wompindia.com/feasting-like-a-nawab-at-fic/
An exquisitely regal affair! That’s the first thought that comes to mind as you enter this place. Draped in royalty, right from the sitting arrangements to the vintage pictures in the walls, the chandeliers, the potted plants, the lanterns by the tables and the staff waiting on you, the grandeur of here is the first thing that enchants you. Opened for less than a year, this place which once was a part of the Royal family of Bangalore, carries the pomposity and poise forward through the general populace now.Next comes the food. So we ordered Murg sufiani kebab and Galwati kebab as starters. Mouth watering, to say the least. The Murg kabab was well cooked and the Gilawti kebab, true to its name just melted in your mouth. Each spice in its rightful proportion, and the aroma of ghee wafting all over the dishes. The dishes certainly help in ushering your stomach for more. Next, for main course we had Dal Makhani, Roomali roti and Mutton Biryani. This was hands down the best Dal Makhani I’ve ever had. Such thickness, consistency and a tasteful delight is a rare find. We loved it so much that we ordered it once again. And the best accompaniment to go with it was the soft and luscious rumali roti. Served with some onions, and this entire meal just makes your heart melt and takes you down the streets of ancient Avadh. Next, was the Dum Gosht Biryani. Each grain of rice served with succulent pieces of mutton, you wouldn’t feel full even after a plateful of the serving. And the creamy Burhani raita efficiently enhanced the taste of this delicacy even further. Finally, for desserts we had Shahi tukda and Phirni. The Shahi tukda was a tad bit sweeter than usual. The Phirni was quite creamy and the texture was beautiful. A satisfying bookend to a complete meal. We were pleasantly delighted with the packet of chikkis at the end of the meal.
