Stop by for a quick and filling meal on the go. The portions generous, fish is fresh and service quick. It’s a very old restaurant, friendly staff. Not much of ambience but like I said, it’s popular and food is so very reasonable

This cafe is one of the places which justify my faith in simplicity. The food served at Cafe Mattanchery is simple, yet very well done and at times it is not the fancy dishes which do the talking, good simple food done the way it is supposed to be can become an absolute crowd pleaser.Being a traveller in Kochi, I was hell bent on trying the local delicacies, but given my time of arrival in the city, which was close to 5pm, I didnt have much choice. Had to stick with the quintessential Indian snacktime favourites at Cafe Mattanchery. The club sandwich is perfectly done. The bread is well toasted, vegetables have a nice crunch and the cheese just brings the whole sandwich together. What I really liked about the sandwich was that the chef at Cafe Mattancherry did’nt try to be over fancy with the filling, the filling was kept just simple and since the bread was toasted to the right balance, what you end up with is a nice, light sandwich which is perfectly constructed. The fries accompanying the sandwich are crunchy and have a nice hit of salt on the outside. You can’t ask for anything more! What really stole the limelight was the vegetable cutlet, which was too good to be eaten. What I expected was a decent piece of potato with some vegetables, but I ended up having an absolute piece of art. Once again a cutlet maybe a very simple preparation, but when done the right way (which is a task in itself) it is one of the best starters you can ask for. The cutlet is very airy, light and crispy. The potatoes are seasoned really well and the veggies used in the cutlet retain their crunch really well giving an absolutely delightful texture to the cutlet. The spring rolls too are quiet commendable. The outside pastry is sinfully crunchy and crispy, while the filling is perfectly crunchy, where you encounter a perfect medley of vegetables. The filling is sweet, spicy and high on flavour. The service is quick, efficient and prompt. They paid heed to my complaint, regarding the fact that in my sandwich the plastic film of the cheese had’nt been removed. Had I ignored it and consumed it, it would’ve have lead to a serious concern, and hence the rating of 3.5 instead of 4. The ambience too is quiet good and what this place gets the bulls eye is the value for money. The food which is so high on flavour, is an absolute delight for your wallet as given this top notch quality of food, what they charge is mediocre and paltry prices. This place is perfect for quenching the evening snack time hunger pangs!
A very average cafe I would say, ambiance wise I personally felt unsatisfied, the food was good, I like their sandwiches and burgers, pastries are ok types, and service is average.
Nice biryanis and ok sandwiches. Their coffee and tea isn’t that great. The burgers and bakery items are not that good. It’s an ok place to eat at while in Mattancherry.
