We went to Masala for lunch. The food and service was subpar. We ordered from the menu ( did not try the buffet) and the curries either lacked flavor or had half fried pungent spices. The only saving grace was the biriyani.

When in Cochin we stay exclusively at the Holiday Inn. Primarily this is because of the friendly and attentive staff plus it is due to their consistency, quality and choice of dining options. Masala is a great casual area offering an ever changing range of seasonal buffets. Food is always good plus if you have a problem the team will go out of their way to make sure you have a positive experience.

Dropped by Masala Restaurant last weekend for Ifthar Dinner with a group of friends. On the day we visited, they had an ongoing Thattukada Special Buffet. The Ifthar Snacks counter was minimal, consisting of Veg Samosa, Potato Wedges, Watermelon Slices, Dates and Nuts, Fresh Watermelon Juice and Thari Kanji. The snacks were sufficient but not warm at all and served almost cold.Getting to the Buffet, we went straight for the Salads. The Pesto Marinated Egg Salad and Roasted Beef Salad were the clear favorites of the lot while the rest were pretty average. The Pita Bread along with Labneh and Hummus were excellent though. As for Appetizers, we were served Tandoori Chicken and Gobi 65, I believe, which were both quite good.As for the Main Course, the Chicken in Oyster Sauce and Grilled Fish In Lemon Butter/Sauce as well as the Dhaba Murgh were my pick of the lot. The Chicken Biriyani and Noodles though, weren’t quite upto the mark. The Methi Paneer as well as the Potatoes with Caramelized Onions and the crispy Papads were enjoyable. There were a few other dishes as well but they weren’t nearly as memorable.Lastly, we dived into Dessert which offered an interesting spread. The Ice Cream and Chocolate Pudding were delicious but the few pastries we tried weren’t very impressive. Overall, the buffet spread could’ve used a bit more variety and can definitely be improved upon in terms of taste. That being said, the Hospitality and Service we received at Masala was par excellence. We were a group including young children who were quite a handful and the staff was very caring and patient with them. That alone would be a reason to come back again as it created a very family friendly environment for us. Major Brownie Points for that!

Amazing food, ordered from a la carte menu. Service was prompt and food was also delicious. Must try their dal tadka. Nikhil was super host.

Very nice and courteous staff.Would like to give special credits to Ms. Padma, very sweet and helped me with getting a picture of places to visit near by.Pretty good variety of fish for fish lovers, overall a little less variety otherwise. Nice ambience and an outdoor seating too is very nice. Would like to add I am in hotel today, I was impressed with Sunday lunch amazing variety (must visit).

Great buffet spread to start with, especially the Sunday brunch. However what stood apart is the out of this world hospitality from the staff. Nikhil,Reghu, Ashiq to name a few were conspicuous with their pleasant personality and proactive service. The food spread was exhaustive with a good choice for each course of the meal. The main course was further bifurcated into a western, north and south Indian section and a live counter . If there was any feedback to offer, it would be about the overdose of pastries in the dessert section. A live band is an add on to the Sunday brunch. Masala also hosts food festivals at regular intervals. On the whole , this restaurant is good value for money. A must visit.
