Today I had ordered 5 chicken biriyani from this restaurant. I never tasted such worst biriyani in my life. It smelled of cooking oil and no good chicken pieces, which were from wings and backbone without any flesh. Makkani restaurant near Naikkanal is better.
Firstly – 3 stars is for the Punkunnam outlet. I ordered through Uber eats once and got a biryani with no salt. :(The below review is for the original outlet in Naikanal. Would rate it 5 anytime. :)I was waiting to try this small shop tucked in Machingal lane for quite some time. I finally got the chance. If you are someone who goes by the ambience of a place, you may not be very happy. Don’t get me wrong. The place is absolutely clean, but has just 4 small tables and is usually full even before 1’o clock. The restaurant has a long list of different types of biryani like kandhari chicken biryani, kizhi biryani, kaal biryani, Thalassery biryani, ammachi’s biryani etc etc. I don’t know if it’s the price, the taste or the fact that its fresh that’s attracting the crowd to the restaurant. I ordered the Kaal biryani (mini, they have both mini and full) for take away. And I must say I was not disappointed. The Biryani was neatly wrapped in a banana leaf, pickle and salad separately packed. The chicken was cooked well and the rice was cooked to perfection.I couldnt resist and ordered the kanthari biryani. Let me warn you its not for faint hearted, it is spicy. But i absolutely loveeeedddd it. A must try.
