Roaming around the streets of bandra, looking out for some pure vegetarian fast food restaurant, we came across this place, situated at the main road of Hill road, bandra.Taste is very good. Service was super fast. Surely recommend every vegetarian to try once here.Let us have a quick look at the scorecard-1) Taste – 4/52) Ambience- 4/53) Staff – 3.5/54) Reorder value – 4/55) No oily food.
Amrut Sagar is a pure vegetarian restaurant located right opposite Marks and Spencer in Hill road. Being in the prominent area it is always bust and it would take a little while for you to get a seat. After you are done with your shopping spree this is the perfect and affordable place for you to hog in to your food.We ordered*Veg Triple Fried rice- Can never go wrong with this dish. A bowl of rice and noodles along with Manchurian balls and gravy. Perfect taste*Mysore Masala Dosa- Amrut sagar serves rrally amazing south Indian food. Mysore masala is one of them.*Onion Tomato Uttapam- soft and yummy. It was served with sambhar and chutney.
Amrut sagar has always been a go to since ages for ordering food, service is quick and food is really tasty! In frame- schezwan fried rice Also the kulfi and South Indian here is really amazing! Highly recommend
For most us, the good old days where one could amble into a South Indian, Udipi, place is gone, gone forever. In place, we have eateries that offer multi-cuisine offerings – they are the proverbial Jacks.Today, typical south Indian dishes like idlis and dosas are better had at street-side specialty places – some even pushcarts. It is against this backdrop that I spotted an eatery with the look and feel of the old and familiar in an unexpected place like Hill Road in Bandra. The name of the place: Amrut Sagar Fast Food. The place is diagonally opposite the popular English retailer. The restaurant is set inside a bit, with very little street appeal. With the additional monsoon tarps, visibility of the signage is further hindered. The signage was covered by the temporary monsoon covers. There is a patio type area under this cover with several seats and then more space and seating area towards the inside of the restaurant. The look is spartan but functional; the layout is ostensibly constrained by space. I elected to be seated in the patio area, where I had a good, unobstructed view of the bustling Hill Road. The ambiance is average. The menu appears at the table just as I am seated. I go over the menu and I am drawn to the back end of this well-bound menu – the South Indian treats. I order the bellwether dishes: A Steamed Idli, an Onion Uttapam and a Filter Coffee. I am offered a choice: Idli dunked in the sambar or served separately. I opt for the separately served dish. The Steamed Idli gets delivered promptly. The idli was soft and looked very appetising. The sambar was a tad sweet but acceptable. The chutney was avoidable – which I did. Not bad is how I would describe the Steamed Idli. The Onion Uttapam then makes its debut. It was the largest Utapam I had seen. It’s like a crepe – thicker than a dosa but essentially the same batter; the toppings were onion, coriander and a sprinkling of green chili pepper. This again was served with the sambar and chutney. I lay the chutney aside and delved into the Uttapam. The Uttapam was delicious; it was light and the occasional dunk into the sambar brought some textural relief. The onion provided the crunch and the coriander, a taste of freshness. All in all, a very good dish – and filling too.I thought I had ordered filter coffee. The coffee I was served appeared to be some kind of instant coffee, sweetened with a lot of love – I mean a lot.Overall food was average; the Onion Uttapam was the star.Service was very matter of fact. Not overly friendly, but attentive. Not very different than my memory of the old Udipi restaurants. For the proper sequencing and attentiveness, I would give service a thumbs up.Actually, my experience at Amrut Saga was quite good. The food was average and so was the ambiance. The service was better than I expected. But I still felt quite elated with my experience. I wondered why. I now believe that it was because I was able to relive my old Udipi restaurant experience. But do not let that mislead you. Amrut Saga has a lot of other offerings (like Mughlai and Asian) in its vast menu. Check it out, you might find something that tickles your palate.
