Nice place. Was on an assignment and looking for breakfast early morning. Had Upma and Tea. Upma was tasty and tea was awesome. Poha ordered by customer sitting opposite me also looked tasty. Will visit again to taste other food sometime later. But worth a visit.
Not every restaurant is targeted to the elite crowd in a city. It is absolutely essential for places to exist that serve good, filling, hygienic food to the local workers of a particular area. One such place within the busy, industrial area of Byculla, very close to Ranibaug Zoo is Triveni Restaurant. I have visited this place a couple of times to grab a quick bite or have a complete pocket friendly meal, or simply for an evening snack. Every single time, I’ve been sitting amongst people who are either labourers, taxi or bus drivers, helpers, shopkeepers, etc. – the foundation of a functioning city, their working class. This small lunch home, has a staff of about 3-4 boys and an open kitchen (not the fancy kinds you’re imagining) with about 5-7 men behind the stove. For an evening snack one day, we ordered: Rava Sada DosaThe Dosa was folded neatly into a square and served with chutney and sambhar. It was thin, light, crisp and buttery. Their coconut chutney and hot sambhar are full of flavour and super yum! On numerous other occasions, we’ve come down to Triveni to eat a lot of other food. They have a huge range of south indian food. Some of the dishes we have had are: Onion Rava Sada Butter Idli The normal rava dosa gets an added heaviness with the onions. It’s quite delicious. The steamed butter idli, immersed in sambhar are huge in size, very filling but slightly hard. You can also order for a mixed plate of idli and medu wada for some variety. From the snacks menu:Misal Pav BhajiThe misal served with plain bread buns is hot and the fastest to arrive if you’re really hungry! Topped with farsaan, the misal is nice and spicy. The pav bhaji is served with onions at the side and tastes best when eaten with Masala Papad. The breads are all served straight from the packets. Not heated or anything. So that is a disappointment as is dulls the whole experience of eating the hot bhaji or misal. From the Indian section:Paneer Tikka Masala with Roti Dal Khichadi The paneer, cut into long pieces, is extremely soft and has a thick buttery gravy base. It’s tastes good, but is slightly dry. What makes the dal khichadi yummy is the tasks – a spicy, hot, garlic tadka combined with rice makes for a order. This staple, combined with Masala Chaas is a great and very filling meal. Food – 3/5Service – 3.5/5Ambience – 1.5/5 A simple place, with a simple purpose. They don’t have any fancy dishes, or great interiors. Basic white tables and benches, with steel serving apparatus. Their main idea – providing economical, filling and tasty meals for people with limited means 🙂
Not the best but you can try. If you don’t have any other option visit this place. Lunch thali is their speciality and paneer tikka masala, paneer makhanwala.
The best place to go to if your running low on budget and a better place to order from when your mom is out of town. The food taste almost like home food and is the best alternative. The Chana Masala and the Thaali are some items you should definitely give a try. Health conscious may not like this place as the food is quite oily. But nonetheless the food is delicious and worth every paisa.
possibly worst place to order north indian food. Tandoori Rotis were partly charcoal/ fermented and they have redfined dal makhani by preparing any dal and adding makhan to it. horrible experience for home delivery. Avoid!
A regular breakfast place for me. Love the Fried Idlis and Medu Vada. But only good for South Indian snacks. Do not order anything North Indian. Not worth it. Overall, a good place.
I regularly order take away from here. Food is basic but tasty – ideal for when you want something light. I’d recommend the South India fare especially the rava dosa. The dal khichdi is also great. The best part is they’ll even deliver 3 chapatis without complaint.
