This is strictly for their Thaali lunch at PGI.Was hunting for equipment when we last this place. Frankly speaking we didn’t even know this place existed. It’s called the Pune Goan Institute and it’s sort of a small club where people come to drink, play cards etc.Lunch is when they serve Thaalis, so we decided to give it a shot. We called for a Surmai and Prawn Thaali with an additional portion of Prawns tawa fry. Food did take time, but we’re glad we waited. The Prawn fry was lip smacking and fresh off the boat!!! Just a squeeze of lime and it was good to go. We cleaned that plate in 5 minutes! Then came ether Thaali. Both surmai and prawn had the same Goan curry, hot chappati, and sol Kadi. In the Prawn Thaali there was a prawn sukka masala and a bombil fry. With the surmai there was green peas masala and and Surmai fry. Rice followed after the chappati. it was so tasty my friend n I did not speak for 20 minutes till we finished the Thaali. The fish and prawns were really fresh and juicy (implying they don’t use frozen prawns) and the Goan curry was smooth, tangy and tasty! Really loved the meal and plan to go again soon!
This is an average hotel. The fast not as good as other Malvani Resturants. I had prawn thali and one of colleague had Promfret Thali. The taste was very average of the fish. The bombing fry was also not tasty. Not a place to explore.
PGI stands for ‘Poona Goan Institute’ & it’s their clubhouse. Pretty much, it combs the charm of an erstwhile Poona whistling into the relaxed bay of Goa.The service is so honest that our waiter even forgot his own name in an effort to consort us through some great food & wonderful beverages. It’s an experience in itself; there’s a certainty about their love for their regulars. See you at PGI!!
This restaurant serves amazing delicious fresh seafood in Pune.We had matka fish (a very popular dish here) where fish (red snapper) is cooked in a matka and served in creamy cheesy flavor. It tastes simply amazing – a must-try here. The next must-have is the fried squid. This is, by far, one of the best seafood appetizers I had. The taste is simply too good. They have a full bar and also a family section. The ambiance is okayish, but good for a relaxing evening with deliciously good food.
Good nonveg food with a well equipped bar. Preferably for group of people who want to relax by having good food along with drinks. Good for late office parties in heart of the city. Very good quality of sea food too. Ambience is typically that of a bar, though they have a family section but its best for get together with old friends.
