Thali And Co I’ve been recommended by my sister to try their Chicken thali and even the place is being so near to me I’ve never tried this. That’s the reason of being true foodie, even if you’re trying new things each and every day you forgot to try something nearby you only.Thali and Co. offer a colorful ambiance which is mostly because of the interior. The nice peaceful vibes help the customer to have some great food in the calm surrounding of Nature. They are promoting their Regional Thalis which Include Kolhapuri Thali, Solapuri Thali, and Goan Thali. They claim to give close to authentic Taste to the respected thalis as the Masala is imported all the way from the given places. Let’s start with food, shall we?Solkadi – Every time I ask for Solkadi only if it’s in house. Otherwise, I don’t even try it. The sol kadi I had here was way too colorful and was too sweet. The sweetness totally killed the sol kadi. Solkadi never has sweetness, it’s creamy because of coconut milk and slightly sweet but the sweetness which we experienced in this one was not at all expected.Seekh Kebab – Seekh kebab means melt in the mouth and it was the same. It was made in Solapuri Preparation where the masalas were too strong for my tastebuds but as I asked others they said it is how you get in Solapur region. Every single bite had an explosion of flavors and the melt in mouth chicken made it the best starter of the meal.Paneer spinacha – A different kind of dish which I really liked it. It was the crowd favorite from the Chinese section, spinach based medium-thick sauce which was too die for paired with pan-fried juicy paneer. I’ve recently started having veg more and this dish really surprised me.Solapuri Mutton mini Thali – Solapuri thali comes with alni rassa, kala rassa , 3 pieces latpathit gravy, bhakri/chapati. Alni rassa was too mild for my tastebuds. It could’ve been better with a slight stronger flavor of spices and meat. The kala rassa was good had nice strong flavors of spices. The lapthapit was even better and the meat was cooked perfectly. The only concern I had of strong flavors other than that everything was perfect.Kolhapuri Mutton Thali – It comes with Pandhra rassa, tambda rassa, 3 pcs of chicken masala, anda curry,bhakari/chapati, rice. The tambda rassa was heavenly delicious, it had that kick of spices which I always look for in Tambda rassa. Pandhra rassa was on milder side which could’ve been better with strong flavors. Chicken masala again had a nice flavor of kolhapuri spices, it was balanced. Pomfret Goan Thali – The thali which we had here was not up to the mark. The goal curry had a more of a tangy creamy texture rather than a medium thick curry one. It tasted like creamy soup for me. The fish was also not up to the mark as it needed good marination to support.Maharashtrian Veg Thali – Maharashtrian thali comes with some great homely dishes which you always wish to have when away from home. The eggplant was mild on taste as I was expecting a thicker gravy and stronger flavor base. Most of the things in the veg was on the milder side.Overall Experience – Overall experience was good but again as I said Im still confused about the strong flavor blast coming from Solapuri cuisine which I can’t tell unless and until I visit the place. Other than that the experience was great.
INTRODUCTIONThis place is located right opposite of the Osho garden on the Sinhgad road Pune. The place serves some lip smacking Maharashtrian food from the regions of the Solapur and Kolhapur. They also have some Punjabi food as well. This place ambience is colourful and vibrant. They only have outdoor seating. the vicinity is covered by trees so get a good fresh feeling while being inside the restaurant.FOODSolkadhiIf you run a non veg Maharashtrian restaurant this is a must have beverage on to the menu. The solkadhi is made out of the cream milk of the coconut and then added with some kokam, garlic. The solkadhi here was having a good taste of the coconut milk and garlic which gave the punch but they had added so much sugar into the solkadhi which killed the punch within seconds.Paneer ShpinachaThis was more of a continental style appetizer. It was paneer along with an amazing spinach sauce on the top. The paneer was pan fried. The sauce was made from spinach puree along with some ginger garlic paste and onion puree. The paneer was soft and had a crisp layer from the outside. The sauce had a prominent taste of the spinach which went good with the paneer. It was a well balanced dish.Chicken Sheekh Kebab (Solapur style)This was boneless chicken coated with amazing Solapur style kala masala and cooked on charcoal to give a smokey taste to it. Kala masala is basically a masala made by grinding together things like coconut, red chilli powder, ginger, garlic along with spices like the clover, cardamom, poppy seeds, peppercorn. The kebabs were full of spice and had a hit of the garam masala to it. Usually the Solapur side people have lots of spice into their non veg food.Solapuri Mutton Mini Thali. This thali has 1 bowl of Alani, 1 bowl of kala rassa, mutton lapthapit and chapati or bhakari. The kala rassa was made from the same kala masala, the only thing I felt was it thicker than usually the rassa we have. Mutton Lapthapit is a nothing bit mutton masala with little bit thin consistency of the masala. The masala was made from the same kala masala along with some onions and tomatoes. This mutton lapthapit was also spice rather it was masaledaar. The mutton was cooked beautifully and was tender.Kolhapuri Chicken Regular thaliThis thali was having tamabada, phadhara rassa, 1 bowl of egg curry, chicken masala, chapati/bhakari and rice. I can say that the kolhapuri thali was different from the solapuri one. each and every rassa was different. The chicken masala in this thali was having spice from on the red chilli powder and dint had the prominent garam masala taste to it. Tamabada rassa was just amazing, it had a great taste of stock of chicken to it, and the consistency of the rassa was also perfect. Phadhara rassa was also good having the punch of the garlic to it.Goan Pomfret ThaliThis thali was having fish fry, fish curry and fish soup along with chapati rice and solkadhi. The fish fry has having a thick coating to it of rava and it was not seasoned properly. The fish curry was creamier and tangier than it should be. Although the fish soup was great.Matka KulfiAfter having some spicy food this was perfect way to eat the lunch. This was malai kulfi frozen in an earthen pot. The kulfi was amazing it was perfect on the sweetness and it dint not had only khava taste to it.VERDICTThis place has lots of potential to grow if they focus on only Maharashtrian food. The kolhapuri and solapuri food was amazing. They really have put efforts in choosing the spice for both the cuisine. Along with this they also have different sizes in thali so one can order according to their appetite. Along with thalis they do have lots of A-La-Carte menu too. If you want to have some good Maharashtrian food then you have to give a try to this place. hungrysoulsumedh.wordpress.com
