Crossing over from one suburb to the other is considered an absolute no-go for a Mumbaikar, especially over the weekend. However, at times your decision to not laze, and get out of bed instead, can turn out to be absolutely worthwhile. Case in point – my decision to visit Amaati Fine Dine in Thane for which I had received a review invite. Amaati is an all vegetarian restaurant close to Viviana Mall in Thane, and boasts of an extensive menu with enough variety for perhaps even the finickiest of vegetarians amongst us. I started out with the INR 599/- menu (taxes excluded), and ordered their Fruit Punch mocktail, Three Dip Platter, Classic Pesto Pizza, and Gulab Jamun. Now, who doesn’t love a good package deal! Amaati offers you the luxury of a 4-course meal at an excellent price point of INR 599/- (plus taxes), and what’s more, you can take your pick from a variety of options to customise your meal plan. From my order, I absolutely loved the Three-dip platter that was bursting at the seams with potato fries and wedges. The Marinara dip (teeming with flavours of tomato and garlic) and the Beetroot Hummus (just the right degree of smoothness and a lovely flavour) had my heart. The cheese dip was quite nice too. Gulab Jamuns soaked through and through with kesar chaashni were pure indulgence. The Fruit Punch spiked with pineapple syrup in a vanilla ice cream base was nice, and should be ordered when you want to have a slightly heavier drink. The pizza, in my opinion, needed a little more of that sharp kick of pesto, but on the basis of taste, purely, was nice too, cheese and sun dried tomatoes being the redeeming factors here.I also got a taste of the GUAVA TWIST mocktail, which is another option from the 599 menu. The sweet and spicy flavours complement each other and make for a nice mish-mash. This drink is preferable only if you’re fond of the flavour of the fruit itself. Amaati offers a great variety of à la carte options as well and I managed to try some of their desi fare. PANEER KURKURE happens to be a delicious starter with a crunchy, masaaledaar coating of crushed papad encasing a soft chunk of paneer. As the name suggests, the “kurkurapan” is quite palpable here. The PANEER LABABDAR, MISSI ROTI, and GARLIC NAAN managed to make quite an impression. Would, however, ask you to slather a lot of butter on the Missi roti before you break into it or else it might get slightly difficult to chow it down. Was glad for the incredible pairing of Garlic Naan and Paneer Lababdar. Mains don’t get better than this. Desi food apart, I also got a taste of the COTTAGE CHEESE CONCASSE SIZZLER which, in my opinion, was one of the better sizzlers I’ve had in the city. A hunk of paneer sits in a marinara sauce base, accompanied by jalapeño-olive buttered rice, and grilled veggies on the side. All of the elements combined made for a wonderful bite. The rice was practically soaked in butter and the paneer, bathed in the marinara sauce. I quite liked this dish.Desserts that were ordered to round off the meal were GULAB JAMUN CHEESECAKE and RASGULLA FLOAT. Both of these were nice. However, the cheesecake needed a slightly thinner biscuit base and a little more of gulab jamun, in my opinion. About the float, the chocolate syrup made it a tad bit too sweet, I feel. As far as ambience goes, Amaati has a very standard family restaurant-ish atmosphere which is perfectly tailored to their target audience. I do, however, feel that the location is a bit of a drawback as the approach roads seem to be perennially clogged with traffic. The servers were courteous and attentive during my visit, but I hope this is also the case during days of heavier work load (there wasn’t much of a crowd when I visited). To sum up, for me, Amaati scores as follows -Food – 4.5/5Ambience & location – 3/5 Service – 4/5 Wow factor (4 course meal at INR 599) – 4/5 Would surely recommend the place to vegetarian food lovers in and around Thane.
