Known for serving authentic Chinese food, Mainland China is quite a well known place. We visited them during the Chinese New Year for which they had curated a special menu.We had:Appetisers-1. Dumplings: We had the dumplings in both veg and non veg, both tasted delicious.2. Stir fried water chestnut Hunan style: the chestnuts were quite fresh and crispy, tasted good.3. Matchstick Potatoes with truffle oil: These were basically thin French fries. Tasted quite yummy and the truffle oil added a nice flavour.4. Five spice chicken: The best appetiser of the day for sure. The chicken was well cooked and the sauce tasted delicious.5. Lemongrass Fish: The seasoning was good but the fish could have been more fresh.6. Malaysian Curry Prawns: These are stir fried prawns with flavour of curry. Tasted really nice.Main Course:1. Fortune Clay Pot Vegetables: A mixture of veggies slow braised in soya sauce. This dish was delicious and the highlight was the lotus stem. Highly recommend.2. Stir fried haricot beans with chillies and sesame: These were crispy and tasted good.3. Chicken with celery and wine: Shredded chicken flavoured with celery and ginger. Tasted mild and was quite good.Rice & Noodles 1. Celery and Chinese cabbage stir fried rice: Tasted delicious and went very well with the main course dishes.2. Singapore style fried noodles with scallions: Noodles tossed in soya sauce. Loved this one.Desserts:1. Mango Pudding: Was very refreshing and yummy. Highly recommend.2. Chocolate rolls: Brownie covered in a crispy layer and topped with chocolate sauce. Good choice for chocolate lovers.3. Coconut Dumplings: Tasted okay but nothing special.4. Rambutan with coconut ice cream: The presentation of this dish was amazing. Tried this for the first time and liked it.Overall this place serves great food to enjoy with friends and family. The ambience is great and the service is amazing.

Mainland China has always been a childhood favourite! Their crab soup, crackling spinach, water chestnuts and crispy corn have been a staple order whenever I visited them.I managed to try out the Chinese New Year menu this time around and loved it!The menu features many delicacies from the Southeast Asian countries. Started my meal with some MUSHROOM DUMPLINGS which were nothing short of amazing!Another dish that caught my eye was the MALAYSIAN CURRIED PRAWNS. The prawns were cooked perfectly and I loved the taste of curry in which the prawns were cooked.I was delighted to see some stir-fried WATER CHESTNUTS in the menu. Cooked in the Hunan style, they tasted a little different but delicious.Another appetizer in this menu is the FIVE SPICE CHICKEN which is delicious. It’s difficult to guess the five spices used while cooking the dish, but it gives a nice taste overall.Among the main course dishes, I tried the FORTUNE CLAYPOT vegetables. Although it’s a dish in itself, I had it with the SINGAPORE STYLE FRIED NOODLES and the combination turned out to be brilliant. Now for my favourite part of the menu – the desserts! Ordered the RAMBUTAN with a dollop of icecream. The Rambutan is a tropical fruit which closely resembles a litchi and is served with nitrogen icecream here.COCONUT DUMPLINGS! What can I say about this dish? It reminded me of ukadiche modak and I relished this dessert. I was happy to see the similarities between the Indian and Chinese cuisines.Among the various festivals that keep happening at Mainland China, I loved the Chinese New Year menu and the various dishes that were featured in it. I hope you get a chance to try it too. If not, then the regular menu is always available. And it shall remain as popular as it had been since my childhood.

Mainland China is one of the iconic places in Pune serving you truly authentic Chinese cuisine. It is located quite close by my house, and I like to frequent it often. Recently I was here for the Chinese New Year Celebration, celebrating Year of the Rat.DimsumsPan Fried Japanese Mushrooms and Mushroom Chicken Dimsums : These were melt in the mouth dumplings where the truffle oil made the dish absolutely delicious. 5/5AppetizersStir Fried Water Chestnut Hunan Style : These were my favourite. I loved the crunchy taste of the water chestnuts in sweetish Hunan Sauce. 5/5. Strongly Recommended.Matchstick Potates with Truffle Oil : These were similar to thin french fries topped with chopped onion and truffle oil. A fun take on french fries for sure. 4/5Five Spice Chicken : I was in love with this chicken. It was well cooked and the sauce was outstanding. 5/5. Strongly recommended.Lemongrass Fish : I am not a big seafood fan so I found the fish a bit smelly. But the lemongrass flavour was spot on.Malaysian Curried Prawns : These had a taste similar to thai yellow curry. Thai food lovers will like.Main Course :Fortune Clay Pot Vegetables : These were a variety of veggies like water chestnut, edamame , mushrooms in a soothing sauce. The highlight of the dish was huge lotus stems which they import specially from Vietnam. Loved it to the bits. 5/5 . Strongly recommended.Stir Fried Harricot Beans with Chillis and Sesame : These were nice and provided a delicious crunch to the meal. 4/5Chicken with Celery and Wine : This dish was not very great to look at, but had a subtle flavour similar to creamy chicken soup. 3.5/5Rice and NoodlesCelery and chinese cabbage stir fried rice : This was similar to fried rice and complemented the gravies well. 5/5. Strongly recommended.Singapore Style fried noodles with scallions :These were great and had lot of sprouts in it. 4/5DessertsMango Pudding : This was my favourite dessert in the list. The taste of mango was fresh and it felt like summer season in a cute cup. 5/5Chocolate Rolls : These were similar to spring rolls stuffed with brownie. I am not a big fan of fried desserts.3.5/5Coconuts Dumplings : In a gist, Ukdiche Modak . 3/5Rambutan with Coconut Icecream : The dish showcases some modern creativity with dry ice and is really cool to look at. Rambutans are fruits similar to a litchi, commonly found in Asian countries. The dessert was good but the icecream lacked the flavour of coconut and the rambutans could have been fresher. 3/5Mainland China is the perfect place to enjoy amazing asian food with your friends and family. They offer a variety of asian cuisines and provide excellent hospitality.

Recently we happened to visit Mainland China for their special lunch buffet. The buffet is priced for 499/- Right from appetizers to desserts everything is worth it. The ambience is pretty basic. Staff is courteous and service is prompt. To start with the feast, the buffet menu first brings you soup which is made up of eight ingredients hence the name eight treasure soup. A healthy option to go with. Next comes the appetizers- CRISPY VEGETABLES which was a crunchy side to munch on, then the DRUMS OF HEAVEN which was way too delish. I loved it! Dumplings were another level soft and delectable. In mains, one has many options to have. In dessert we had coconut rolls with ice cream, this dessert was something different we had lately. The combination was just super amazing. Every dish had the authentic taste to it. One should definitely try out their buffet if one is searching for authentic Chinese food. I’m definitely visiting this place again.
