Been here many times and I must say it’s the cleanest and most hygienic place to stay that side of the ferry. This time I didn’t get the normal cottages and the bathrooms in the rooms behind left a bit more to be desired. They need to replace the tiles to be precise in those rooms. About the food, traditional East Indian fare cooked by some lovely ladies from the village. The food is very satisfying and fresh. Prices are quite steep as has always been which will leave your pockets feeling empty if you want to binge.
Toddy Tapper is Manoribel Resort’s cafe/restaurant. It would be a lot more awesome if breakfast was included as part of the hotel stay.I had aloo paratha for breakfast. It was served with yogurt and Indian vegetable pickle. The aloo paratha is part of a set but we didn’t get the tea or coffee they mentioned. My husband got pav with his omelet, that was quite good though. There’s a nice view of the beach and a tree house as well, so that’s fun.
If you go here on a weekend be prepared to get a set menu with chicken or fish curry, deal, rice, paneer and mixed vegetable. We were staying there and not at all prepared to have the same set menu for lunch and dinner as they don’t serve Chinese or any of the other stuff mentioned on the menu. This place I personally feel is overly priced for the quantity and quality of food that is served. The taste is good but could be better for the price they charge. The ambience and the view from this place is spectacular. Will I visit this place.. Maybe just for a relaxing cup of tea overlooking the beach not for the food..
Recommended: fish platter and surmai fish curry. Pros: 1) Authentic east indian food. 2) Location is simply awesome 3) ambience is good Cons 1) bit expensive but ok
Been this place which is called Toddy Tapper, great ambience but food is pretty expensive as compared to taste. But full marks to great ambience. Its hard to believe that u r in Mumbai and still away from maddening crowd. Sharing some pics as well.
One of the high-points of staying at ManoriBel beach resort is the food at Toddy tapper. Quite pricey but cooked in the authentic East Indian style. The seating overlooking the sea, with the breeze and the lovely old rock music (Eagles, Steely Dan et al) makes lunch a better meal than dinner (giant mosquitoes at night!).Breakfast is oven crisped hot pavs with butter and jam, pork sausages and eggs n juice. Fish and prawn curry and fried sea-food form the base of the food on offer, supplemented by dal, chicken curry and veggie fare. Don’t miss the tendli pickle that’s served with the meal – also possible to buy this for a takeaway. On Saturdays they fire up the tandoor at night and serve up the yummiest Chicken tandoori. Home-made ice-creams are disastrous though and best avoided – strongly eggy. Caramel custard and the amazing tea-time coconut cake (can be ordered as a takeaway) are not to be missed. The sea, view, breeze, music, calm add that extra oomph to the food quantemplate.in
So, this is a sea side restaurant in the ManoriBel Resort. You have to visit the place to know its beauty. You get the Goa shack feeling here, with the wild wind blowing around you with specs of sand and the scent of moist earth. The ambiance is its greatest attraction, and you wont feel like leaving even after your meal. Now, lets come to the food bit. They serve good fish curry, and fish fries and so on. However, your choice is limited to prawns, pomfret, surmai and bombil. You dont get crab, mandeli and other fishes that you normally find in Bombay eateries. However, there is a tandoor and they serve you fresh tandoori of fish or chicken. The fish curry has its own identity that is rich and flavorsome with Portuguese-Koli influence. The food is cooked the traditional way with hand pounded spices. For those with not so traditional inclination can choose from a variety of Indian, Chinese, Tandoori and Continental fare. The prices are kept very high, may be because of the ambiance and neatness they provide in such a remote place, away from Bombay. The set meal is priced well, at Rs 500 for dal, rice, fish curry, 1 veggie and a dessert. However, the dal and veggie is quite average, so you might end up having the rice/roti with fish curry only. The best deal is their fish platter which is priced at around 1000 bucks and has all variants of fish available there in quite a good quantity; crispy fried, it is ideal to have with roti and fish gravy. Overall, it is a must-try eatery if you are in Manori.
