The cuisine of Kerala is linked to it’s history, geography, demography and culture. This cuisine offers a multitude of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes prepared using poultry, red meat, fish with regularaccomplishments.Chillies, curry leaves, mustard seeds, coconut, tamarind, tumeric and asafoetida are frequently used.Kerala is known as ‘Land Of Spices’, many ancient civilizations with the oldest historical records of the Sumerians from 3000 BC, are the proofs.Foreign influence in Kerala cuisine is marked, with each religion from Muslims to Syrian Christians developed their own cuisine..Authentic Kerala – The Taste Of Malabar in PowaiIs one of best place to enjoy authentic traditional Kerala cuisine..I can say with full responsibility because, I lived in Keston Road, Trivandrum and Kallur- Karavanttara, Kochi for almost 4 years.. Cranberry juiceMr Yadav served us food with lots of care.. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere.Chefs personally came to understand, which dishes we want to have, that was really a nice gesture..4. Being a citizen of the world often comes with cutting any strings that connect you to your roots. You lose some tastes as much as we learn to accommodate to living in high rises. But stepping into Authentic Kerala, was a coming home of sorts. The owner Mrs. Mary, a magnetic personality, sat me down and ran me through their breadth of their culinary skills. The kitchen which was the brain child of her friend Annie, herself and their combined love for typical Kerala food. What started as a small scale kitchen for take away, took a life of its own.Six months into its conception, they are ready to go public.Which brings us to this lunch, which was a feast in all fairness. We started with a side of banana chips to munch. The chicken stew and it’s accompanying appams were a treat for the taste buds, in its rich coconut milk glory. The beef fry and parota, a flagship favourite in Kerala, almost moved me to tears for the perfect hit of spices and meat. The prawns fry was a northern kerala preparation style with generous coconut shaving and fried onions. The speciality of the day was the Kothu Paratha, a banana leaf steamed preparation of paratha and basted chicken. The meal was polished off with kulhads of payassam (adapradaman). It is heartening to see the genuine love behind the preparation of each dish. Keeping the authentic style of Kerala however comes at the cost of perhaps alienating a few customers who might find the plentiful use of coconut, hard to swallow.Yet the mind behind the enterprise strikes me as a lady who play the rules of business with a practiced hand. And will emerge successful with her new venture ! Here’s wishing them all the best !
Shappu meen curry was less in portion and full of oil. The meen also didn’t look as a fresh catch but tasted either like a frozen or dry fish. Not a good experience with this restaurant.Reviewed again dated 26th November -Highly recommended for their attitude to serve their customers better.. They got back to me personally to understand the issues. They offered me to serve again based on my feedback.. Voila! The improvised dish was very good and met with my expectations.. Fish was fresh and tasted delicious..
Courteous staff, delicious authentic South Indian food and an absolute amazing variety of dishes. It was the first time for me to try so many south Indian dishes and I was truly impressed.
