I had visited this place when it was just opened up, few years back & I was in my school days. That time it was really good place with people coming to taste their sabudana khichdi, misal, poha, veg mini thali, puran Poli etc. However I visited this place couple of times recently when I went to nearby area in the crowded Lanes of old Pune but was heavily disappointed with the change. I don’t know,if their management / cooking staff/ market positioning strategy changed or what but the place has lost its charm. You will see Marathi style decoration on the walls & all and the name of hotel is the same However it does not taste the same now. Will list the things below based on my recent visits to this place (& not my old time good memories about this place):- Paav bhaji was fresh but it’s portion size is very small & the plate in which they serve you reminds of hostel days- sandwich was disappointing as the ingredients were not fresh in taste- misal was fine but it would stand no where against the nearby legends such as bedekars, shrikrishna, ramnath or Shree- the good thing was juice that we ordered & was not containing excessive ice crush so was pleased with it!
visited this place several times from my college days & still visit when i get time or Especially when i have my fast. Because, i liked their thali for fast like, khichadi, upvas thalipeeth, groundnut laddu, whole upvas thali each & every item is so tasty. Your pune food is not complete unless & until you visit this place.
Good place to have a good food.Items are not much spicy and had feeling that we were having simple food. We ordered Daal Khichadi, Fried Rice, sada Dosa, Sezwan Dosa, Puran poli Combo, and Solkadhi. One can skip Solkadhi anytime and instead of combo can go for normal Puran Poli.Other than that all other items were good. If you are visiting Kelakar Museum then it’s just next to it. If you come to main road there are other options as well but one can always go here for simple food. I saw people ordering Thali as well. People were courteous. Ambiance is OK.
Been here with my brother on Saturday afternoon. He was all praises for their misal. But it was a sheer disappointment. Haven’t tasted anything else. Ambience was ok
There was a time we were frequenters here. They specialize in proper maharashtrian food along with spl Puneri specialties. I visited with my friend on Mahashivratri cz I knew their upwaas menu is elaborate. The place is neat, clean organized. You are served within 10 mins of order. Food is sufficient in quantity but I really want the old taste back. Some food items are bit bland. But overall.. it is a decent place.
This place holds the most nostalgic value for any Punekar. Bapat Uphar Gruh is a very old restaurant which serves traditional Maharashtrian food and snacks. They have customised options for individuals who hold fasts. Almost everything here is in the must try list but the Thalipeeth is extra ordinary. One would not say that they visited a restaurant here it would be apt to say that they got a chance to grab a bite of Pune flavors and culture here. Located right next to Kelkar museum this is icing on the cake to get in depth of the Puneri culture and hospitality.
