We have been ordering in from Mr.G for a very long time, so when Russell asked us to dine in at Hog (their restaurant) we were pretty excited. As we sat, the ambience echoed Christmas and new year sentiments, music was pleasing and some amazing numbers from 60’s and 70’s created the right ambience. What was extraordinary was how Lalit walked to each table and engaged with people. Food was beyond expectation, served hot, we devoured on Andhra chicken, fish fingers, chicken burger .. to top it were a variety of chilled beers to choose from. Perfect place to party in 2020.
Meeting a friend from town is always a good excuse to visit new watering holes and Chembur seems to be buzzing with happening places mushrooming one after the other!A quick look at HOG Taproom was on the cards for long in any case hence we went & did exactly that. Starting of with the approach, it is a little unconventional but at the same time makes a lot of sense since it is a separate entry/exit to the hotel premises it is housed in. The interior ambiance is that of an industrial setting, with lots of exposed metal and semi unfinished decor, along with uncomfortable looking chairs but once you sit in them they are not bad at all. We started off with Gateway brewing co’s famous White Zen Craft Beer, that was fresh and chilled to the right temperature. Complementary cheeselings accompanied which is always welcome. The staff on hand was attentive and when they realised that we haven’t ordered any starters, they kept inquiring with us with regard to the same.Since it was already past 11pm, we decided to go straight for main course with my friend ordering the following:Chicken Fried Rice – 4/5Excellent portion with plenty of egg and chicken. Chilli Chicken in Gravy (Again Minus Capsicum) – 4/5Not very spicy but not bland either, the balance was just right & once again the portion was good. The manager decided to check in on us & inquire whether everything was satisfactory to which my friend & I nodded. My friend then asked for a soup to which the manager recommended a roast chicken soup which was very good in taste and portion. All this while we were enjoying the music, which I must say was well programmed by the in house DJ, who deftly played a mix from the ’60s to the ’00s and at just the right decibel level. This was a bonus as most of the places the music is either not curated in the right manner or is just blasted to make you go deaf! The bill was presented to us with 2 for the road shots in the form of Alcoholic Popsicles, which was a nice touch & most definitely appreciated by us.While this was my first visit, I’m sure it won’t be my last & will definitely recommend it to those looking for good beer, music & service in centrally located Chembur (Diamond Garden Signal)
I visited HoGs on a Saturday Nyt. It has an amazing atmosphere and a courteous staff. There was a live performance by a curly haired girl and a dreadlock guitarist. The hospitality of this place was outstanding. The menu was small and delightful. However I felt that for a taproom they should’ve had more choice in drafts offered.Ambience 3/5Decor. 3/5Food Quality. 4/5Drink Quality. 4/5Hospitality. 4/5Service. 4/5
