Highly recommended for south Indian items. Its spacious and decently priced considering the norm set by Pondy’s cafés. Wouldn’t be wise to order north Indian stuff. The staff is polite but mostly speak the local language.
Heard about its speciality in dosa preparations. So wanted to check it out myself since the day I arrived at Pondicherry. However, only last night we had the chance to explore this place. On the ground floor, there’s a sweets counter known as Sri Krishna Sweets and the restaurant is on the first floor. The dosa (more specifically masala dosa) was huge (not unlike the other places which serve these South Indian item) and was pouring out of the plate. Decorations were minimal but necessary. A banana leaf was tagged underneath the dosa featuring a special feeling you get while enjoying your Tamil food. Chutney, sambar and pudina were really congruent with the dosa. Nothing to add more, nor would I dare to.
This restaurant/ sweet shop is located on Mission Street. We decided to stop here for our evening coffee break, after a tiring day of city tour. Besides, Sri Krishna Sweets is a famous name, been around for quite some time and so we didn’t think twice before going in.The restaurant is divided in two floors. The bottom one is dedicated to sweets and savories, while the first floor is seating with service. We wanted to grab some light snack along with our coffee. We were apparently too early for the snacks and had to settle in for parotta kurma.First the ambience. It is decent, nothing exceptional. It is surprisingly not very occupied. People clearly prefer A2B and other popular outlets over this one. There are about 4-5 tables on the first floor.Next the food. The item we ordered was sadly disappointing. The parotta was hard. The kurma was too spicy. We ordered our coffees soon after and that was good.Service is ok. The sweet shop at the ground floor is good. We tried the boondi laddoo and a couple of savoury snacks and liked them a lot. Will come back only for the sweets.
