The first place I went to in puducherry was Vaasavi Mess.This place is a small, home like, cozy, comfortable little place.It literally felt like a house. When I was entering this place I thought I was entering somebody’s home.Well coming to the food now.So the first time I went here. I ordered the plain dosa and idli.The food here is served on a banana leaf. So thats something that makes things more authentic and exciting. The sambar, coconut chutney, idli, vada, dosa everything was served on the banana leaf itself without any plates, spoons or katoris.Plain Dosa Review° The Dosa as I said before was served on banana leaf. So the presentation was exquisite.° It was crispy and fresh. Had no filling as it was plain dosa. The size was decent and generous.°×The dosa like every other dish at this place was served with sambar, coconut chutney and some spicy chutney.° It was thin almost like paper. So that’s a plus. Makes it even more delctable. Was a little low on salt but that didn’t influence the overall taste.Crispiness rating: 3.2/5Presentation rating: 3.8/5#WorthYourMoney :4.5/5Overall taste rating: 3.8/5The next dish I had there was Idli.° One plate of idli consists of 2 Idlis and the Idlis were bigger than most average sized idlis.° Served on a banana leaf along with coconut chutney and spicy chutney.° The presentation was even more exquisite. No spoons or katoris served along with the idli. So the only way to eat the idli, chutney, sambar etc. was by hand. And believe me there is nothing more satisfactory than eating food by bare hands.° The idlis were really tasty and soft. They went well with all the three servings i.e. The chutneys and the sambar. And it was fun to mix them all and eat by hand.° Although the idlis seemed a bit crumbly. Not out of the cooker fresh. But yeah i guess thhis is expected from idlis. Don’t judge a book by its cover and don’t fall for the outer appearance of a woman !!! Vaasavi s a tiny place with ahhhhhhmazing idlys which tastes fantastic with that brown podi and coconut chutney. I have never liked idlys in my life but over here it’s a Grammy winning recipe.
