The 1-line summary: A small ‘mess’ that serves ok-ish tasting south-Indian tiffin, at very nominal prices; best for delivery/takeaway.The rating: Food: 3.7/5. VFM: 5/5. Ambience & Service: 4.5/5 (More for service, than ambience). The details: This is a small ‘mess’ in Selaiyur that seems family-run rather than a full-fledged commercial establishment. It serves typical south Indian tiffin items for breakfast & dinner (idli, dosa, poori & pongal); and parotta available for dinner alone. Though they call themselves ‘Chettinad Restaurant’, there’s nothing Chettinad about the menu/taste, it’s all plain-vanilla south Indian tiffin items only. The idlis were soft and served hot. The pongal was also of ideal texture, and not dry like most such places typically serve. The poori is huge, almost the size of a chapatti ! It loses it ‘poori’ness & becomes soggy when packed & delivered – but to be fair you can’t blame the restaurant for that. The best thing about this place is all the accompaniments for the tiffin items; the sambar, white chutney & tomato chutney were thick with the right amount of spiciness, the poori masala was so good that it made the soggy poori eatable. The staff is pretty responsive & service is good. This place seems popular among local residents for a quick tiffin order when they don’t feel like cooking or on a lazy Sunday morning.Though the place can seat some 12-15 people, it’s best to go for the takeaway/ delivery option. They have opened a few other branches in the vicinity of this restaurant; one of them’s called ‘Just Tiffins’, guess they are moving up the value chain. All in all, a place you can try out once in a while.
Taste is good but they don’t have many varieties in there menu that is a drawback and the home delivery service is good , all together they are good for quick breakfast
JUST IDLIES most of the time idly is out of stock, but dosa is very good. I love their chutney and sambar. I prefer delivery or take away, since the place is very small.
This is a nice place for good south Indian breakfast. Taste is good.I had idly dosa and sambar vada. It’s good.Don’t try puri you will not like it
I am a frequent visitor to this place. Food is good special mention to dosa and chutney varieties (tastes awesome). Tried paratha once, but felt the taste was ordinary. Overall a good hotel for food lovers
Food tastes good but can be liberal on serving sambar.. Chutney.. nd I have noticed using Tupperware materials to store veggies which is hygienic.. Overall exp: Homely south indian tiffin center but overpriced for its location!
At 9pm in the night, I just wanted to eat idilis! So I grabbed my bike keys and ignited my engine only to stop at JUST IDILIS. I was a lil disappointed when they told idilis are exhausted. Left with no options, we ordered dosa, masala dosa. When the dosa was getting prepared, I looked at the restaurant. It was definitely very small, but the architecture was very good. And very clean too. I felt awesome being there. And the dosa too was awesome. The sambhar was delicious. Now, just idilis is in my weekend list. 🙂
