Visited Mahabalipuram last Saturday, went for lunch to this cafe. It was just the backyard of a building and they have named it as garden view cafe. No proper decor or ambience. We ordered Gecko special fish with chips and prawn curry with rice along with beer. It costed us Rs 1040. Food quality was not even upto the mark neither was the quantity sufficient. They do not even accept card or any digital payment method. I will never every visit this place again.
Simple and good food. The owner is super friendly and take the time to talk with his customers. It’s a really relax place.
Gecko is a little restaurant in one of the most dynamic streets of Mahabalipuram. The place is really cosy and pretty. We went there one morning, but the waiter told us that no cooker was in the kitchen, and that they could only come one hour after. We obviously left the restaurant. We came back for lunch and the cookers were there. We had to wait for nearly one hour in order to get our lunch done, as the cookers were there but doing nothing. The food is tasty. The indian dishes are copious and tasty whereas the french ones are quite small and not that delicious. In conclusion, good value for money for the indian plates, average one for the french plates, and very very poor service.
Such a lovely restaurant with absolutely lovely staff! Food is well priced and tastes really good! We had the prawn noodles and veg thokku and both dishes were really yum! thebausgirl.com
Having tried almost all the restaurants in and around this one and only this one being left, we decided to have our lunch here.Right opposite to the old Moonrackers, even this one has the same kinda ambiance. Open restaurant with rustic junk interiors. A lot of buddha related stuffs in decor. I love such ambiance. Only drawback is being an open restaurant, the fans wouldn’t suffice in this heat. We were sweating badly. We took our table and after going through the seafood dominant menu and one of us being a vegetarian and me not a seafood lover, we ordered for:* Banana milkshake – It barely had any milk. It tasted as if bananas were put in grinder with water and not milk. Blah.* Cream of mushroom soup – Diluted. Very. Not creamy at all. Lot of mushroom pieces but didn’t have the kick in it.* Veg Thokku with Butter garlic rice – Thokku was the saving grace. It was very tasty. Rice on the other hand neither had butter flavor in it nor any garlicky flavor. It was like plain rice. With thokku it was a good combination though.Service was pretty quick. All these set us back by INR 465 along with a bottle of water. It would have been reasonable if the taste was better! meethichhuri.wordpress.com
It’s a sudden plan for Mahabalipuram. Totally not prepared but anyhow all went fine after having a delicious lunch here. We were just wondering where to go for lunch then a guy showed us this place. We went and got a table for us. We were a bit confused but had ordered for Chicken Noodle Soup as our starter. It’s done nicely. No complaints. For our main course we ordered Prawn Coconut curry with Rice. The prawn curry gives u a complete flavour of Kerela. Too good. By tasting the gravy itself you can feel the richness of coconut. Then we ordered something seafood i.e, Garlic Butter Fish with Chips. Am totally fallen in love with this dish. Seeing the dish itself a satisfaction came and seriously it’s too tasty. So tenderly it’s being cooked with a balance of butter and garlic too perfectly. Plenty amount of chips they served. I would recommend this to everyone. The food got completed with a glass of coke. I must mention that the owner of this restaurant is very friendly and well behaved even the decoration and their Logo is bit different and catchy. Next I visit Mahabalipuram it’s sure that am going to get my food from here.
We had Crab Masala Fry which had fragrant medley of spices and aromatics. Its spicy punch is set off deliciously by the sweet crab meat. 😉
