Ideally i would give it a 3.5!Visit: 19 Jul 2018After catching up for a movie in Jazz, we were planning to dine out. Amidst all other dining options in Phoenix mall, this place is calm and classy, and has a great ambience too. We have already been to this place once, very long time ago and decided to check this place out again. Location: Get inside the Jazz Cinemas lobby and take the elevator near the giant piano to the first level. Menu: 3.5/5The menu is typical of any café – pizzas, burgers, salads, beverages and desserts with both veg and non-veg options. Reasonably varied spread but not many options in each category I should say. However, they serve a Durban delicacy called bunny chow which has a baked round whole baguette (scooped out) and filled with a gravy of your choice. This is something I have not seen in any other restaurant and is very interesting to try. Ambience: 4.5/5 I should admit that this place has a great ambience. It is nothing less than classy! Being situated in the first level, we can view the entire lobby area of Jazz cinemas. The chandeliers and lighting give a very vintage and royal feel. The huge sofa and granite tables only add on more elegance to the theme. The sofas however are not too comfortable for your dining, but are great options for an interrupted coffee chat. They also have few tables with chairs which are more comfortable for dining. The crowd is also minimal (may be as this is very less explored) which means you will have a peaceful and hassle free meal. Overall the ambience is just top notch. Taste: 3.5/5The order: Thai Chilli Chicken, Fish & Chips, Herb flavored Grilled Chicken. The starter, thai chilli chicken was decent, neither bad not too great. It had wok tossed chicken chunks with onions, capsicum, spring onions but with very less thai flavours. It was more like a Chinese version but we did not have any major complaints with the taste. However, both our main course dishes were very good. Fish & Chips was very well cooked, completely non-greasy and was very well presented. It had good quantity of fries and also tasted great. The herb flavored Grilled Chicken was very well done. The grill was juicy and flavorful with perfect balance of herbs and seasoning. It was served with a spicy sauce, fries and grilled veggies. Overall the quantity and presentation were great and taste was average. I had tried their bunny chow previously. Definitely, a unique and different dish. It is too heavy to be completed by one person, however, a great option to be shared and experimented for all the foodies. Service: 3/5The service was good. Staff were friendly. The food does take some time. However, there is only one person for taking the order, service and billing and one person for preparing the food. This looks sufficient as there is barely any crowd in this place, most of the time. We were the only ones there on a weekday night, so no complaints on the service. Value for money: 4/5For the full order including taxes, the bill summed up to Rs. 932 for two people. The food was neither too great nor completely bad, but some of the dishes are really good. This totally depends on your order. The value for money is justified considering the prime location and quantity, compared to most other restaurants in Phoenix mall.My take: This is a less explored place in Phoenix mall. Do try this place if you are not too particular on taste and want to stay away from crowd. If not for the food, the ambience is sure to impress you!
To be honest, the food was terrible. I felt the food they served was made of old stock. Inordered golden spicy prawn, fish n chips, bunny chow chettinad chicken and orange sunset. Firstly, golden spicy prawn. Its taste was terrible. It smelled like it was rotten. And it was not even cleaned well. The shell of prawns were still there. Next came fish n chips. After having a bite of fish n chips, i felt golden spicy prawns were better. It had worst smell. But the life saver was bunny chow. And the only reason i gave 2 star is for bunny chow. And at the end orange sunset, which was one more disappointment. On the whole if you visit here, do try bunny chow. Never order fish related dishes.
