So far the best nalli chops I’ve tasted, wheat parotta and the ghee rice was excellent and went well with the nalli chops.Accompanied by a veg friend of mine so ordered Gobi 65 some rotis and Chettinad mushroom masala which all tasted good.Prices are reasonable for non-veg but not too high for the veg dishes but they’ve justified it with the quality and the quantity.Would definitely be visiting here again.
Lappa is one dish in which the parotta is made into thin crispy pieces. There is chicken lappa, egg lappa and various kinds of lappa I tried the egg lappa from the Chidambaram Moorthy cafe well known for it’s parotta and lappa and I was not disappointed. The lappa was flaky paired with the tasty salna which makes you order another one before you could finish your first This place is quite known for it’s variety of non veg dishes cooked to perfection with the south Indian taste. If you are in the area and wants some good food, you must definitely try this placePRICE -₹100

It has become a trend off-late for legendary, down south, hotels to open a fine-dining type restaurant branches in Chennai. Another member into this list is Chidambaram New Moorthy café. We happened to be in my pugundha area for a family evening and decided to head out this place for dinner based on recommendation. Menu: 2/5By the name of this place, I was expecting typical south Indian chettinadu hotel/mess kind of a menu. To my surprise, the menu had chinese, north Indian, and even arabian grills and shawarmas. Personally, I was disappointed. The Manchurians, chillies and schezwans out numbers south Indian options. Ambience: 2.5/5 The restaurant is adapted in the same place where the old Fisherman’s Fare used to be. Looked like most of the stuff was re-used. It din’t feel like a newly opened place. Moreover, the place was running full on a Sunday evening and so we were seated in the open party hall on the first floor. It was more like a series of chairs and tables with literally nothing around. Taste: 2.5/5The order: Finger fish, Chicken onion roast, Plain barotta, veechu barotta, Chicken briyani, egg dosa, Kadai-veg and lime soda. Finger fish was decent, not too oily. It was a bit high on food colour but taste wise normal. Barottas were soft and flaky, just like the road side shops. But they were served cold. The salna served with barottas was also decent. Egg dosa was good. Big dosa coated with eggs and seasoned with salt and pepper. Went well with the salna. I did not taste the veechu barotta or veg-gravy, but there were no complaints on that either. Chicken briyani was a big letdown. There was no flavor, spice or distinctive taste that the briyani usually has. Felt like normal pulao rice. The chicken onion roast clearly stood out though, it was the best in the order. Small shreds of chicken roasted with lots of onions, spices and curry leaves, was more like the filling used for kari-dosa. This dish tasted very good, and it helped us complete the barottas and briyani. Lime soda was refreshing. Quite a decent quantity for the price. Service: 3/5The service was pretty slow. There were very few staff to cater to the crowd. It is also fair to understand that the restaurant is running full house on a weekend, but atleast the food should have been hot and fresh when served on the table, to justify the wait time. We felt like the food was prepared a while ago but had nobody to attend to, and hence landed up cold on the table. Value for money: 3/5For the full order, the bill summed up to Rs. 1200 for a family of five. Though the prices were pretty reasonable, the overall taste and service was not up to the mark. Undoubtedly, one of few very good pocket friendly places, but the taste and food could not match the value for money. My take: Maybe I had high expectations or maybe it was just a bad day at the restaurant, this place was quite a letdown compared to the hype and reviews I saw. It is an average place where you get ordinary food for a normal price. Nothing stood out or impressed my taste buds. I may not visit again if not for having some barottas without a pinch on my wallet.
